That's definitely something to think about if you're Hart IMO, you don't want to be doing this again in a couple years.

I think White could be a long term guy, Tyndall as well.

Also, I'd be shocked if Smart or Marshall came to UT. They're waiting on the bigger jobs to open up IMO.

With UT's fan base, facilities, and coaches showing that Tennessee can recruit and compete in the big dance(sweet 16s and elite 8), maybe a coach is all that is missing to make UT a "bigger job". I feel that Pearl had a lot of teams around the country wanting no part of UT when it came game time. Seeing UT take down Texas, Kansas, #1 Memphis not so long ago. Who knows. Maybe UT is closer to being a "bigger job" than some think.

So, in your ultimate wisdom, please explain why UT remains at the top for attendance? We may not be known as a BB giant but our fans sure seem to plunk down the $$$.

I've warmed up to the idea of pitino over the past couple days. He'll be taking some team to the big dance within 2 years im sure. May as well be us.

I still think we should consider the Southern Illinois coach who took verbal shots at his players in that interview. He seems to not mess around.

I honestly don't believe any money gets Smart, he's turned down excellent job after excellent job. Marshall, who knows. If we hadn't turned him down twice I'd feel he'd be more likely to listen without having to give him a million dollar raise. The only way Crean is leaving Indiana is if he feels he has to get out ahead of the posse. I haven't saw his named mentioned by anyone serious though.

The athletic department spends a startling $21 million a year on debt payments, $13.5 million of which comes from the school’s stressed $99.5 million athletic budget and the rest from donations.

I honestly think Marquette would have happily negotiated with him at that price if he was a guy they had any interest in at all.

They were paying Buzz 2.8 and offered Smart 3. Howland has a better resume than both.

Exactly! I had season tix during Pearl era until I had to move. We saw that UT can be a great bball school and will support a coach that goes all in. Do people not understand thay as soon as he put that product on the court, UT gave him what he needed. New facilities, etc. It was a destination job for him. There are still guys like that out there. Some of our fans have an inferiority complex. If a guy comes here and invests like Pearl did, fans amd admin support him. So all this garbage about never supporting bbal, being a stepping stone, is tiresome. And untrue.

Maybe someone in the media will have the stones to ask Hart directly. "If UT was sitting on 50 million dollars instead of 2 million, would you be willing to spend top dollar for a basketball coach"? If he answers yes, maybe taking up a collection is the way to go. :eek:lol:

Again, they built pratt practice facility and renovated TBA, I guess you just mean they will not invest in coaches (pay for big name), which I agree with. I do think it is time to invest in coaches. Nothing against Butch or saying it is impossible to turn out to be good/great coach if not big name. Just like someone else pointed out in other thread, it is like 4 and 5 stars and 2 and 3 stars, percentage is in the 4 and 5 stars of being good/great players.

I find it laughable when people say our fanbase is focused on football and cares little about bball. Research attendance in Gainesville in bball and holler back at me. Worst bball fans ever considering the teams they have every year.

.... I'd be ok with most of those. Pitino would be my last choice. I think if his last name was different, he would not be a candidate. Not to mention, you'd have to really over pay.

Tennessee's lowest home attendance last season was 86,783 for Western Kentucky. The capacity at Neyland Stadium wasn't even that high in the '70's.
