Unofficial Coaching Search Thread

It won't be because of money as I believe he can be had for very cheap, but I think there's more going on than we know. I have a feeling the NCAA is likely black listing him behind the doors to ADs, otherwise you would've seen someone take a shot.

Then again Missouri may come out and hire him in 2 days, who knows. If that happens and we end up with Hart I will lose all faith in Hart.
Is said 247 artical real if so do u have a account

Hart being the AD and coaching basketball may be trying to cut the budget just a little much. JMO

Nice write up BTO!! Thanks for good info!! Question though. Lot of people talk about money, but how can that be when we have more than most going to games. We should generate enough to pay a coach that can win. I know about pay outs and what not, but with football on rise, why not make basketball a player as well?? Thanks for your thoughts!!

Honestly I don't know. I don't have the info, someone else might. I know when Butch was hired and Hart first came here it was discussed a lot.

Our reserve was around $1m while other schools had a $25m reserve. How we got to that point I'm not entirely sure, maybe someone can provide a solid summary???

Really think White would be a great fit.
Crowd pleasing offensive style and runs a clean program.
More I read about him, the better I like.
Also, think the kids would like him and talent onboard could play his offense.

It's why I was pushing him 6 months ago if a move was made. He's a young
energetic guy, has won a lot of games, coaches a style the casual fan can get into, has southern ties that should enable him to recruit successfully, played in the SEC, and has been T'd up!

We've spent 36 million dollars on a practice facility and an arena renovation in the last 7 years. We were paying Coach Pearl a top 20 in the nation salary 4 years ago.

I don't understand why people continually throw this out there when it's untrue.

You beat me to the punch...Pratt Pavilion is one of the best practice facilities of it's kind. It includes two full size gymnasiums, recruiting lounge, weight and film rooms and space for sports medicine.

Fulmer and other coaches we were paying to sit at home and watch. The Hammy carousel.

We will never have a large reserve, our excess goes to the academic side. We made huge profits for a long time and had nothing set aside due to that.

Other schools don't do that, or don't do it as much.

Nice synopsis by OP. Unfortunately it just speculation and we won't have any legitimate info until Dave Hart calls a press conference to announce the next coach,

I wouldn't put it past Missouri to hire the guy, they hired Haith when he was under investigation didn't they?

Yep. I don't recall anyone having Cuonzo on their short list on VN when he was hired.

I didn't mean how he left Minnesota, but like how he left the actual school, you know cause he was fired. Guess I worded that pretty crappy lol

And I'm with you on Pitino Jr, I don't want him.

It's the understatement of the week - but, he would be nowhere close to our list if he wasn't Rick Pitino's son.

Here's a little article that will give you an idea of where our profits have gone over the last 10 years.
And this is just after Dooley was fired. Think of all the other hirings and firings that have gone on.

Of the six you've got singled out....

Michael White
Donnie Tyndall
Chris Mack
Richard Pitino
Mick Cronin
Archie Miller

.... I'd be ok with most of those. Pitino would be my last choice. I think if his last name was different, he would not be a candidate. Not to mention, you'd have to really over pay.

If Mack and Cronin pass on us and the big dogs are out then this is who I want...

247 update says Tyndall, White and Pitino are most likely candidates.

Cronin and Mack are using Hart to lobby for a raise.

Recruits say they would love to play for Howland who is pushing Hart very strongly for the job.

All per 247

In this group who is known to be the best recruiter? It all starts with recruiting top talent IMO!

Did I miss something? What's with all the references to the zoo?

Apparently Dave Hart was at the zoo this week since Cuonzo leaving. With football coach searches we look for coaches getting on planes. With basketball coaches we are looking for candidates meeting Hart in the gorilla cage.

Derek Dooley and fired assistants will cost UT an estimated $7.5 million » GoVolsXtra

The buy-outs were tough, but at one point we were giving 14 million dollars a year back to the academic side. 7 million in direct cash contributions and another 7.65 million athletics sent to academic for scholarships.

We could have had a nice reserve if not for that. Yet to pay out those buy-outs Cheek allowed athletics to keep it's own money for a couple of years. But it either already has, or soon will start going back to academics again.
