Couldn't agree more with Coach Pearl

You have to ask Pearl or the NCAA investigators to be completely accurate, but from what I have read Pearl was NOT told the true nature or the line of questioning going into the meeting with the NCAA. Pearl thought he was there to answer questions regarding excessive phone calls to recruits.

So he would have been able to answer the question "is this your phone?" but not "is this your house?"

Faulting anyone but Bruce for lying is asinine

It matters in the regard that if the NCAA expects the truth and integrity from coaches, they should hold themselves to the same standards.

Did the NCAA lie to Pearl? They asked him a question and he lied to them. Did U.T. lie to Pearl? They asked him a question and he lied to them.

I liar is a liar is a liar, and Bruce has proven himself to be a terrible liar.

Pearl didn't even bring a lawyer to the meeting. I have to think that if he had any clue as to what was going on he'd have done so. Hamilton dropped the ball on that just like he dropped the ball on everything else.

To be fair though, I think it had more to do with our AD's incompetence than anything else. About the only thing Hamilton kept track of or was any good at was fundraising.

Your missing the point, they baited and switched Pearl, I agree lying is wrong, Pearl should have never done it, but they shouldn't be allowed to lie to him either.

All am saying is it is not a one way street. I don't like to be lied to, and I bet you don't either.

Pearl not bringing an experienced attorney or at least consulting one was first mistake. The first piece of advice that an attorney will tell you regarding sworn testimony is to always tell the truth. Lying was his second and most costly mistake.

I was under the impression that Hamilton knew what they were after, but he was too afraid of the NCAA to tell Pearl the truth. But, I may be wrong on that.

Pretty sure UT did know but Hamilton really was incompetent too.

I can't imagine what kind of emotions Bruce will be feeling once he steps back into TBA as an opponent. He obviously still cares a great deal about our University and fans. It's going to very hard to cheer against the man, but my University comes first.

You will have to ask Pearl or Hamilton to be accurate, and as far as I know the transcripts have never been released to the public. Based upon the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident, it is fairly safe to suggest that Pearl was completely blindsided by the NCAA, but Pearl should have told the truth.

All I am arguing is if they had something on Pearl it should have been disclosed to him, otherwise it looks like they were just trying to set him up, which they did, and had Pearl answered the question in a different way, nothing except a slap on the wrist for committing a secondary violation would have ever come from the interview.

The lesson to be learned here is that lying is wrong regardless of whose doing it.

You act like this was Bruce's first go around with the NCAA. He knew exactly what he was doing. He knew the ramifications of lying, but he thought he could get away with it. The fact that you think he needs a lawyer to instruct him not to lie is interesting.

Now this I agree with. The Bruce made the NCAA look really bad with the entire Deon Thomas scandal. He stayed one step ahead of them at UWM, including a recruiting violation that involved, imagine this, hosting a recruit on an unofficial recruit at his house. I have no doubt that the NCAA thought he was going to lie, gave him the opportunity, and he didn't disappoint.

I completely agree. That's why I was hoping that he would never return to the SEC. He's my favorite basketball coach ever at UT.

If it were possible, I'm sure he'd run back to Knoxville to coach rather than Auburn. It really sucks how this all played out. Zo is a d*** for not telling Hart that he wanted to look elsewhere. At least then Hart could have talked to Pearl. The lucky little run to the Sweet 16 prevented us from getting Bruce back.

If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen, life is a beech. Or you can't always get what you want.

BP isn't the only guy, there are a lot of people that need an attorney to tell them not to lie.

Good, I'm glad we can agree on something today. GBO!

So it's ok to lie to some folks but not ok to lie to others? Is that the lesson we take from your post?

What about telling the kids to lie about being at the cookout--is that ok too?

Again, I lke CBP and he did a lot for us Vol fans but let's don't anoint him as a saint.

So Pearl's lie is worse than the lie Martin told according to you're moral compass?

Bruce is and always will be about Bruce. I hope he fails miserably at AU and we curb stomp him every time we play them.

Hope in one hand and crap in the other and see which hand fills up first. I hate that Pearl is at Auburn because I knew what he could do to us as an opposing coach.

That's got more to do with Cuonzo leaving than the petition. Could you imagine getting thumped by Auburn next season?

Basketball is the dirtiest sport in the NCAA, dirtier than football ever dreamed of being. Pay for play starts as early as 5th grade. There's no such thing as a college basketball coach who never lies or cheats. The best you can hope for is that the lies are 'white lies' and the cheating doesn't cross large moral boundaries. That's the nature of the biz.

Bruce Pearl simply got caught where others haven't and was overpunished given his 'crime' compared to several other coaches who've been caught - look at Haith.

Nice to see our Profs approve of cheating :)
