Unofficial Coaching Search Thread

Not better than Tubby, Howland, Cluess, and more. People say this season wasn't impressive because of the talent. I say his two bids aren't impressive due to havinga good NBA player and the best team. He should have had at least 3 bids with Faried. Every other year besides two with him have been average. Its a reason he hasn't sniffed a big job yet.

He's coached 9 years, 5 without Faried.

He went 30-5 at Juco and played in their championship tournament without Faried.

Took over Morehead that was 4-23 the year prior and went 12-18 without Faried. .

Won 20+ 3 times, 2 NCAAs with Faried.

Went 18-14 in his year at Morehead without Faried.

Then has went 27-10, and 29-7 in two other years without Faried.

116-49 without Faried. 70% winning percentage without him.

Thought I'm still not sure how you hold it against a guy who has his two best seasons at a school in his 4th and 5th year with a roster he completely recruited and developed.

Once again. How many bids without the best player by far in the conference? If we had The best player for three or four straight year I would want more than two bids. Its easy to win the crappy league auto bid when you have the only NBA player most in the league will ever play against.

So basically because he was an assistant at MTSU? We can do way better.

Because he was an assistant at LSU, MTSU, Head Coach in Eastern Kentucky, coaches in Mississippi now. Probably has good relationships with SE area coaches etc.

No clue why you're so dismissive of him. He has an outstanding resume in every aspect that you want from a coach.

No. Donnie "Crazy Eyes" Tyndall

You dont like the way he looks. Pretty clear that's the issue with you calling him "crazy eyes". Otherwise, your main issue is he developed a guy who went pro therefore he stinks because he made his players good thwn "rode them" to success.

I just don't think his resume is impressive. People hated Martin but Tyndall's resume is worse. I don't think we will get a "name" coach. So I would prefer someone like Cluess or even White who is an up and coming coach. If not an ex-NBA coach. To win at the level people want we need someone who will get big time recruits. I don't think that is Tyndall. His O also doesn't score enough. I wouldn't give up on UT if they hired him but I would be less than thrilled. He wouldn't be a bad Derek Dooley hire. But he isn't good enough to keep getting mentioned until will miss on about 15 other coaches.

Learn a little about the OVC. Murray State won the conference Faried's junior year. They were 17-1 in the conference, 31-5 overall and knocked Vandy out of the NCAA tournament. Morehead finished 2nd to them that year at 15-3. Oh yeah, that Vandy team had several NBA players on it. They were then knocked out 54-52 at the hands of the Butler team that played for the NCAA title.

Oh yeah, of those 5 losses, one was to Tyndall's Morehead State team, thus the 17-1 conference record.

"I wasn't surprised. He (Martin) didn't seem happy there. I know they say he had to follow me and they didn't embrace him but they still got 18,000 in there for the games. Embracing has to go both ways. They have great fans, great facilities. I'm VFL and glad they could move on". Bruce Pearl being interviewed by Athlon today.

I got the major points he hit on. Just heard it on radio and couldn't get it all.

I see White and Tyndall as similar options and both would warrant about the same salary at Tennessee. The main thing I see as a difference is White's SEC days were much more recent and IMO could prove to be a bigger benefit.

Army, is this your #1 guy, or is there someone else you like but don't think we are likely to get.

I honestly don't have a number 1 guy, but I'd be very happy with Tyndall. I do like him best of the guys like White, Pitino Jr, or Miller at Dayton, just on the fact that he has been to 3 schools, 9 years experience and won big at all 3.

I actually like Cluess, but haven't heard him mentioned. I strongly disagree about the resume of Zo vs Tyndall, especially when Zo was hired.

I never said Tyndall can't coach. His resume should have him way down the list. Some of you are acting like he made a Final Four. To me he is average. His O is boring and I don't think he would recruit well. He would not be the worst hire. He is not in the top ten best available or realistic though.

I would much rather have White, Cluess or several other coaches.

I dont follow. His resume doesnt impress you because he had an NBA player but you would prefer a young coach whio hasnt developed. I like White but Tyndall's resume is better, so not sure how you can dismiss him due to resume then prefer an "up and comer"

I'm trying to warm up to him. With regards to the others you mentioned...I don't think Miller would leave. On White and Pitino Jr., and I know folks probably aren't going to like it...I'm not sure that the people close to them would think Tennessee would be the right career move. That's just my feeling, no inside info.

In other words I think White has a good upside. I think Tyndall has had many years to show what he is . A coach who can make the tourney 50% of the time when he has the best player in the league by far. I think he is average. I want a good coach. Not average. Also his teams average about 67 ppg for his career. White's O is way more exciting.

Four of Tyndall's last five defenses ranked in the top 18 of CBB in forcing turnovers. I can deal with that.

For those wondering, White's last two defenses ranked 10th and 13th in the same category. Also top 45 all three years in defensive 3PT% and top 75 all three years in offensive TO%.
