Jeff Goodman tweets UT has Pitinio Jr. on the short list

so amaker is a no but tubby is a yes . U all make no since.

What's to get Amaker has only done good at Harvard(sucked at Seton Hall and Michigan) while Tubby guided Georgia,Kentucky and Minnesota to the NCAA's many times. He's even won an NCAA Championship while at UK

SEC background does not mean a whole lot on the college basketball national stage.

we need a coach who can recruit the midwest, the northeast and not just focus on Atlanta and Memphis. Tiger High is going to keep most of it's players no matter what. Atlanta players are great athletes, but they are not as fluid in the fundamentals as the guys from the midwest and northeast.

Someone who actually understands the game and the skills necessary to build a winning program, not just have hit and miss seasons. Please post more often!

That news is not surprising. Pitino left FIU after one year and said he absolutely hated to do it. No chance he does Minnesota the same way. He also has a 1.5 million buyout and I'm thinking Hart will try to avoid having to pay a buyout if he possibly can.

That said comparing a Pitino Jr. hire to a Dooley hire is laughable. Pitino Jr. can flat out coach.

If Howland is calling for the job, you don't get anyone else. You hire him on the freaking spot. No questions.

I'd all be for Chris Mack too.

Pretty much go for Howland or settle for someone like Martin at this point.

Keep doing your research and you will find out why Dave Hart will not hire Howland.

Ahh. I see. Definitely doesn't seen like the type of coach Hart likes. Hart's all into relationships between coaches and himself as well as coaches and players and fans it seems. Howland doesn't seen to fit that mold. Or didn't. I still would be happy if we hired him

The thing about Howland that separates him from most of the others is that he's done it at more than one place and at a high level.

There's much about him to not like I suppose, the baggage of UCLA being one thing.

That said...Pearl was a risk at the time, and he certainly was for Jay Jacobs. The NCAA has never been as weak as it currently finds itself. If ever there was a time to take a calculated risk like Howland...

I think Pitino Jr is a little young for here still, but he'll be very good somewhere eventually. The Pitino coaching tree is as good as it gets.

I still don't see why people lump Tyndall in with he and White, Tyndall has 9 years head coaching experience and has 200 career wins in those 9 seasons. That's an average of 22 wins per season and he took over an epic rebuilding project at Morehead.

I'd also be happy with Tubby Smith. He'd coach here 8-10 years, be a great ambassador for the University, and he'd win and make NCAA tournaments. The man is 525-244 in his career with a national title and he's taken 3 schools to the sweet 16 and made the round of 32 at Minnesota. Minnesota was awful when Tubby took over, they went from 8-22 to 20-13 his first season. Minnesota has only been to 8 NCAA tournaments that they didn't have to forfeit for NCAA violations in their entire history, Tubby has 4 of the 8.
