Unofficial Coaching Search Thread

Why is that hard to figure out. The late signing period isn't a factor. So you aren't rushing simply to complete a recruiting class.

1. You're gonna have to recruit your signees, the longer you make them wait the more pissed they get.

2. There are JUCOs and grad transfers out there who could make Tennessee a better team. We have an open scholarship, times ticking though.

3. Recruiting isn't a 6 month job, JRs year round. The spring evaluation period which starts next weekend is pivotal in the upcoming class. If Tennessee doesn't have coaches out recruiting that weekend they're way behind the 8 ball.

Rob Lewis just said he's starting to think the money isn't gonna be there for guys like Marshall and Boyle. Surprise right?

Said he expects White, Tyndall and Archie to all be contacted.

Jeff Goodman also says the UT job stinks...so, forgive me for not giving an eff what he has to say.

He didn't say that. There was a report saying Hart thought it was a hot job and all Goodman said was "Well what's he suppose to say? It stinks?"

So, again, why did they include Smart, Crean, and Boyle on their initial hot board?

This is going just as we expected.

They included like 20 names, it was really a huge net they threw lol. I said earlier today my top 5 realistic candidates were Boyle, Miller, White, Tyndall and Pitino Jr.

The possibility of White is growing on me.

No interest in Tyndall.

Miller would excite me totally.

Wow, Tom Crean!?!?

I hadn't thought about it, but I guess their fan base is kinda crazy. He probably is on the hot seat.

No, I removed him, I don't see us pursuing him. We could land him for sure IMO, but I think his past is scaring a lot of people off.

Yeah, I think it is too. I think he would be a great hire as far as his coaching abilities but it's the other stuff that concerns me. But then again maybe he learned his lesson and just wants a second chance to prove it.:twocents:

What are the coaching styles of some of the guys on our list? We all know that Cuonzo liked the tough man to man defense with the slow motion offense. Does Pitino Jr. run a press like his dad? I'm also curious about guys like Tyndall and White.

Sadly I've come to expect us to have to have to go at least 4-6 deep on our list. But, fortunately I think candidates 4-6 will be no worse and likely even an upgrade over what we had.

Cuonzo was decent but that was only going to net us an NIT/bubble-NCAAT team most years. As we saw this year, a veteran team getting hot at the right time and some breaks could let us get on a run, but that'll be no more than once every 4 years.

Right now I'd put my money on the hire being White or Tyndall. Not the big name hire most want but fortunately either should have a chance to improve our program.

I wasn't the only one to take that the wrong way. He had originally used a period not a question mark. I now see where he has clarified and corrected himself.

I say throw the bank at Howland or Marshall and call it a night instead of hiring coaches with little experience.

Pitino Jr. isn't the right fit imo. Name recognition is all he's got at this point in his career. Besides, do we really want the Italian mob running the show?
