Not if Hart hires the right "up and comer". There are ALOT of very good basketball coaches around the country making less than a million bucks a year. If UT calls, they would listen IMO.
I think I am on board with Hart making the call to Michael White of LaTech and offering him the job. 71% winning % is pretty strong(74-31). His LaTech team ended up tied for 1st the last 2 years in their conference. He has 7 years in the SEC as an assistant where he was considered a VERY good recruiter in the south east. He currently makes around 500,000.00 a year and his buyout is 400,000.00.
If Hart is looking for a bargain, IMO this would be a very good looking candidate.
I dont disagree. What I mean is that IF they made the right hire for that price, he would have uphill battle as fans would bail. Also I meant more in terms of the message it sends about UT's commitment to bball.
Why would it be a given fans would bail? I would like to think a UT fan would at least give the coach a chance to prove himself before bailing.
As I mentioned in a post IMO Michael White from LaTech would be a good fit of an "up and comer" who would fit in nicely. SEC ties, proven recruiter, wins at a high % and would be a bargain. IMO 1 million a year gets him as that would about double his current salary. May not be a "big name", but a solid choice IMO.
He would be solid choice. The hardcore fans would be there but I think based on the fact that attendance is already declining each season, hiring a little known guy with a gloomy forecast for the season, they wouldnt be beating the door down at TBA. JMO
