Worley looked good.

Hurd and Malone looked good.

Defensive backs were horrible.

Defensively as a whole we just weren't that good.

I agree. I think for today they just created an offensive flash show to entertain the fans. I think it worked but anyone interested can look at the tackle stats and know that the leader board is populated by 2nd and 3rd team defensive guys. Reeves-Maybin and Owen Williams were the only 2 likely starters in the top 8 tacklers and neither of our likely starting safeties were on the field at all. It was fun to see all the "throw and catch" but there wasn't much resistance most of the time - and I think that was by design. Our offense was playing against maybe "WKU" most of the day. The only guy in our secondary today that I think will start in the fall was Sutton. Randolph will be back in the fall and the other 2 starters will arrive in June. I think our defense is going to be wicked good. Our offensive line may end up being our achilles heel. jmo.

Keep in mind how well our offense did against our best defensive effort in the 3rd scrimmage. Our best front seven defense even without the new arrivals kick their butts last Saturday and I think that's how the season will play out. Our defense will win games for us and our offense may end up struggling behind a weak line. jmo.

I think the main problem with our defense is depth after the first string. Hopefully once we get some of the newcomers on campus in the summer and some of the injured get healthy, it won't be as bad.

Nice, fun day at Neyland. The real work will get done in fall camp along with the weight room over the summer.

We'll still have depth issues since we may be losing Carr from the DL. Youth isn't the best answer for depth though I did notice in Vereen's interview today that he's good friends with Mosley and he was saying he expected Mosley to be ready to contribute right away. That would be huge (no pun intended) if it happens. I think we'll be good at DE and LB so of the front 7 depth at DT is what I think we need the most. It's going to be an incredibly exciting fall camp to see how all of this gels. The competition on defense at almost every position is going to be substantially elevated.

Chris Clark just reopened his recruitment and a PSU tweeter asked if he was ready to commit to the number 1 recruiting class. Is PSU currently ranked first in any of the rankings? Thanks.

I don't know but they are dominating the northeast.

Yes Jimmy Frank killin it. Still hate him but really glad to see him gone from VU. I hope he fails at developing talent and gets fired

Yeah #1 on 247 with 9 4stars right now. I hate Jimmy but at least someone is stepping up to challenge Corch Irvin in that joke of a conference.

I don't think our first team D looked good today, but they weren't as bad as some are making them out to be.

Worley's big run came on a play where the end stunted inside and the tackle was supposed to contain the edge. Worley made a good read and there was nobody there to stop him essentially. McNeil missed the tackle on him later.

Other than that and Sutton getting beaten by Marquez, I'm not sure there was a whole lot of truly ugly plays by the first team defense.

Sutton won't play WRs as good as North too often this season. McNeil may very well find himself losing snaps to TK, McDowell, or Gaulden. AJ didnt play much and Randolph wasn't on the field. Having those two guys will help our run defense a lot. Our run D wasn't bad on the first team today really.

Once we get our new guys on campus, we should have a competent defense this season. I'm not expecting us to be great, but they should be better than last season.

I don't believe I ever said that the depth issue would be solved completely. I just don't think it will be as bad as it is right now.

I think I understood what you were saying; I didn't mean to imply otherwise. I agree with your premise and I don't think it will be as bad either. :)

Those sanctions still have to be hurting for a while though, huh?
Um not really significantly honestly. Think all sanctions will be cleared by what 2016? And they got a reduction under Coach BOB. Also in their weak conference getting the right players will counteract their sanctions. Also they are still in court over another possible reduction or elimination of remaining sanctions right?

Jimmy is slimy and has been talking a lot about it in media sessions I think

I think they can still only take like a maximum of 20 recruits per year. Some number like that

I'd actually like to see Jimmy Frank have some success at PSU.

Yeah, he beat us twice, but he also set Vandy back by about two years by detonating their recruiting class on his way out. Can't fault the man for that.
