They just passed a CA Supreme Ct case to ease up the restrictions, so once that decision is final, I will probably get one.

I'll have to look into that. A neighbor stated that the best way to get a conceal carry permit in CA was to get a PI license. He didn't go into any details and I didn't really ask him to because in my mind, "ain't nobody got time for that".

This summer I'd like to get a 1911. I don't currently have one (don't have any .45).

I'm just looking for a general purpose one. Would like to keep it at a grand or less.

Here's what I've researched:

STI Trojan or Spartan - have heard great things about these. LGS has a beautiful Trojan but it's pricey. I don't mind paying for quality but not sure I want to go that high. Spartan is more affordable but if I'm going STI then I may bump to the Trojan.

Ruger SR1911 - seems to be a good value. In general I prefer blued to SS so I'm not sure about this.

SA Range Officer - another that looks to be a good value but I'm not sure I need or would like the competition style sights.

Other ideas?

Sig 1911 XO. Normally can pick up for about $900 or so.

Probably the best and most accurate non-custom gun right now.

Now my other suggestion will cost you far less since you have a 9mm already.

A 1911 is a pistol you either love or hate. You either drop serious money in one or get disgusted and sell it. To decide if you like it or not, I'd suggest a Rock Island Armory 1911 in 9mm. The Tactical 1911 FS model specifically. Runs great, add grips as needed (the ones that come with it are way fat) and see if the bug takes. Plus with the 9mm, you aren't taking the plunge into other calibers just yet. And no matter what, it will hold a good retail value fairly close to what you pay for it.

Use the Metalform 9mm mags from Brownells and go shooting.

I had just about talked myself out of looking for a 9mm 1911.

The wife will not be pleased.

If you were close I'd let you take mine for a spin. And I'd be willing to bet pennies to dollars you'd pick one up the very next day.

The only "problems" I've had out of mine was holster selection. The slide is a tad bit larger than a standard 1911 which causes some fitment issues. I use a leather holster so it was a moot point and ended up fitting fine.

Only other "issue" was the Wilson slide stop I put on mine. It wasn't engaging some of the mags I owned, but ran perfect with the Mec Gar 8 round mags I have. And those mags are just as good as any other Mec Gar mags on the market.

A 1911 is one of those things you have to own at least once as a gun owner. Just replace the grips (I look at standard 1911 grips as a sign that says "insert new grips here") and you have a decent 1911 out of the box. I was surprised at how nice it was for the price tag.

I shot IPSC with mine last weekend and it's dead on accurate. Way more accurate than other cheap 1911s.

Funny story about that. Last time I tried to sell it, listed it as simply gun and case. Just a couple calls.

Listed it two weeks later with 300rds of CCI Mini-mag and raised the price 50 bucks...people go nuts. Phone calls and emails all over.

Guy at work claimed it, but he's never paid more than a little deposit. I need to just give him his $ back and run it again. Might run it on a pull board or something.

Remington R1 or R1S or the factory exhanced in either. Any of them will run you under a grand.

Good idea bundling with some rounds.

I tried to trade mine when I got my SR-22, they offered me $50. For that I'll keep it.

Picking up an SR22 is the very reason I'm selling it.

Don't get me wrong, I liked the Mosquito, and it was good for my wife to practice with. But its too damn picky and its served its purpose.

After getting the SR22 and P22 I have no use for the Mosquito. It's junk compared to the others.

Love my SR22. Love the Walther too. Great plinkers, each the cheap ammo, easy for the wife and daughter (she's deadly accurate).

Love my Colt MKIV in .45..

It's my favorite pistol

Every range should have one or two, that you could try out

Saw the posts about the SR22. I've been meaning to buy a 22/45 Lite but the dearth of 22 ammo made ita low priority item. Has anyone compared the two? Speaking of 22 lr pistols in general, I've always considered the Buckmark to be about the best non competition pieces available but that opinion is admittedly based on shooting done two decades ago.
