Recruiting Forum: Football Talk XI

As excited as I am about the O&W game, I also can't wait until June when the rest of the 2014 class arrives.

I think the projected depth chart on both sides of the ball is going to change A LOT between June and August.

We're almost getting a full recruiting class of extremely talented kids who will provide immediate depth...on top of the 14 EEs who have been here since January. Pretty amazing.

If even just 4-5 of the summer arrivals are ballers like Moseley, Johnson, Malone, and Thomas, then we'll be in pretty good shape this year, IMO.

It's going to be an exciting summer that's for sure. I've not enjoyed an offseason this much in, well, forever. Can't wait to get the rest of this class on campus and see what happens...

"Just 4-5" is more than you think.

If that happens, we'll be doing well.

It's going to be a fun summer/fall camp of competition that's for sure. I think one of incoming Safeties beats out Mcneil for the job alongside Randolph. I think another DB gives Moseley all he can handle at the corner opposite Sutton (I think this spot will have the most competition). Barnett, Hendrix and Sawyers will all push for starting or backup roles on the DL. The new LB's will push JRM, although I think he keeps the job for now, and will all be in the 2 deep. At the very least our depth in '14 is going to be MUCH more talented than the depth in the previous few years.

Yep...I agree with all of this. Gonna be oh so nice to finally have a little bit of depth again...

Yep. The 2014 class is going to do big things at UT.

I also think ST will be vastly improved, as any of the newcomers who don't crack the two-deep will probably be called on to add some speed to our pathetic kick/punt return coverage.

I don't think it's much of a stretch to believe that 4-5 of the 17 guys we have arriving in June will contribute right away.

TK Jr, Gaulden, Bates, Weatherd, Hendrix, Barnett, Sawyers, Berry twins, etc. Lots of talent coming in, but it's hard to guess who is going to step up. Other than North, I never would have guessed that Corey Vereen and Sutton would have been the guys last year.

The idiots are loose in the FF today.

JJ has been committed for about 2 hours now and they already are trashing his passing abilities. They are saying 2-3 weeks at QB then to defense.

Can't be happy.

People are THAT invested in the QB race right now. This is bleed over from the Worley, Fergy, Dobbs war that fans have started among themselves. It will be nice when 1. the season has started and 2. we have a steady starter. People are fighting a fan war because we don't have any games to argue about right now and QB is a question mark.

I'm thrilled to have JJ aboard.

No doubt about it, the ST's this fall will be young but very talented.

True.

I shouldn't have called them idiots. Reading that post makes me look like the idiot.

It was brought to my attention, as it should.

We're going to be a very young team this fall but the talent level will be night and day from the last few years. Mistakes will be made but at least those mistakes will be made from 18yo's with a bright future ahead of them.

Nah, I don't think you said anything wrong. I'm just saying the divisions over that are making people lose their minds and stuff is carrying over into threads where it shouldn't happen. When things get more settled hopefully all the factionalism will end. We've been eating our own all off season.

I consider contributing right away being in the 2 deep - I think you are right and maybe low-balling it a bit to be conservative saying 4-5 - could be more than that in the 2 deep

there are going to be several spots on that D up for grabs in the 2 deep - also think Medley, Dscott, and Vwharton (returner) could see significant roles as well

3 of the DL, 2 of the LB, and 2-3 of the DB's could easily make that 2 deep of the crew that aren't already on campus along with those guys already mentioned

I think idiot was a perfectly appropriate word - we aren't settled at QB - even after the 2014 class are in serious need of an athleticism upgrade

CBJ lands an elite athlete who is the #1 player in your own state and wants to play QB and they freak out

seems like idiot is too nice a word to me

Yeah while it's obviously not 'nice' to call folks names, it's not a stretch to say that acting that way when we land a huge recruit is stupid, idiotic even. That's why I'll be glad when the season starts - too much fighting based on the QB battle in the FF.

I think a couple have good years (TK, Hendrix, Gaulden), while others show that they'll be playing their sophomore year.

They'll be thrown in early and often, though.

And the lessons learned from those mistakes will pay HUGE dividends in the coming seasons...

Is orange and white game going to have any kind of live stream? I knows it's not on TV but surely there will be a steam right?

This defense will be much faster and much more violent than in years past. While they'll be young I like their potential much more than the groups we've been putting out there. I'm extremely anxious to see Gaulden and Berry push at the CB spot. Also I want to see if McNeil can hold off TKjr. :)

Completely agree with all of this. The only problem is that our fan base seems to be so short-sighted now-a-days, the freshmen that make mistakes (as all freshmen do) will be endlessly criticized and written off before their 20th birthday.
