I am not going to freak out on any of these spring practice reports or the O/W game. Some of the roster will continue to get stronger over the summer and there will be the other studs from the last class reporting to get in the mix for fall camp. In fall camp they will fine tune the two deep. I see a 7+ win season coming.
I'm hoping Blair can drop about 15-20LBS and the light comes on. With him being a Juco, we don't need another Quinn situation playing out.
A&M is having the same issue with their 2 JUCO OLmen so I'm wondering how long does it normally take to make the transition for JUCO linemen? I'm guessing offense is more mental than defense. Bullard picked things up pretty quick it seemed but then he was on the inside and he was coming from Notre Dame and not some JUCO.
Or some players are better than others. It's different for different kids. It's just hard to see a HS kid like Thomas come in and is ready to roll day 1 and then a Juco kid comes in and seems to be so far behind. Obviously Thomas took his months leading up to UT seriously. It sounds like Blair did not. He is supposed to have all the tools to be an NFL OT. Hopefully the light comes on very quickly for him. We need him this year.

I want to see Blair and Pair step up
Same here. Hopefully we get an OL transfer over the summer
On replacing last years offensive line
Well, we had the luxury last year of having individuals that have played those positions for a long period of time, and I love them all. They are great character young men, they are doing exceptionally well, I talk to all of them just about every single day so you have that comfort level, where now you have individuals that most of them have never taken a snap in a college football game before. In so, again you have a different element, but I also see a since of hunger. Again, this football team has been extremely eager, so its a balancing act, its different, but theyre all kind of exciting and like I said, Ive liked our mentality. This is a team Ive found very early that I can challenge them and they can respond. They have not backed down from any challenge that we have thrown at them, but as we know as the calendar winds down, the challenges become that much greater in moving forward.

On traits necessary for young linemen to be looked at on both sides of the ball
Well first of all, we went into this recruiting class wanting big bodied athletes, individuals that could run, that were extremely competitive, and had versatility. And we have a number of these individuals that unfortunately, wont be here until June so I will be able to assess that a little bit more then, but you go back, and you look at the tradition, allot of our great offensive lines that weve had here at Tennessee, allot of these individuals came in as defensive linemen that made positional changes over to the offensive front. So we just want big bodies, those were at a premium for us, that could run, that were physical, and you always start them off in the defensive line first and foremost. And then if theyre a step slower then you move them over to the offensive line.
You know you may have something here.

So Mosley, Robertson, Barnett? Who are the DL candidates coming aboard in June that might be able to step across the line right away?
Mosley and Robertson. But thats not what I was talking about. I was talking about a transfer from another school.
That's not likely though, right?
I still think we're going to be okay on the OLine and I definitely think we'll be better than the post scrimmage gloom on VN in multiple threads right now as it relates to our tackles. I think most everyone agrees we're okay on the inside. The thing is that Kerby backed up James last year so I could see some shuffling from the spring to the fall and I fully expect Blair to rise to the opportunity. Still, we need depth and this year bodies on the OLine are at a premium.
Does a two TE set buy us any breathing room in your opinion? (I mean as far as slowing down the outside pass rush).
