JRM is in the mold of the old Chavis LBs. a little undersized but fast, furious, and a big playmaker. Can't wait to see him play this fall. He's definitely got a nose for the ball. Look at how many plays he made on special teams.

For sure. He's probably our best coverage LB too. Picked off Ferg a couple times now.

KNOXVILLE — Corey Vereen probably is getting his practice jersey back.

The Tennessee defensive end has worn a white jersey with the right number and wrong name on it for the past week after the Volunteers' offense earned the right to wear the orange with its performance in last week's scrimmage.

Vereen and his defensive mates, particularly his fellow defensive linemen, helped ensure the Vols' defense will be back in orange for the final week of spring practice.

"We were kind of dragging last practice," the sophomore said following Saturday's session at Neyland Stadium. "and we told everybody, 'Not again. We've got to come out this practice strong, with energy.' We came out and we did it. We kept drives from going, we got off the field and did a lot of good things today.

"We had a lot of movement and a lot of blitzes in. On top of that, it was just a mindset we had. We told everybody we're trying to attack and trying to make plays."
....
From the start of the scrimmage, it was Tennessee's defense, which struggled last week, that had the most energy.
.....
After being limited in the first two scrimmages, rising senior All-SEC linebacker A.J. Johnson was in for every first-team repetition Saturday. He combined with Vereen for another sack and broke up a pass. Jones called Johnson a "presence" and "made himself felt out there."

"You're with a professional when you're out there," Vereen said. "He's been here before. He's relaxed, he's cool, he's calm. The calls are quicker. It's great having him there."
....
"Today was a big day for us," Vereen said. "We had to have today to keep going into the next week and into the Orange and White Game and into the season. We had to have today.

"It was a good momentum changer. Everybody had a lot of energy, a little juice, a little pep in their step. Today was very key in what we're trying to do here."

I'm just getting caught up from yesterday and watched Butch's comments following practice.

After he mentioned the majority of our EE's being on offense and thinking of how many of those guys will either be starters or see significant playing time I wondered if the staff may have intentionally picked more (or certain) offensive recruits to be EE's instead of possible defensive EE's for whatever reason. I know not all the signees were even eligible to be an EE, but I'd guess a few defensive guys could've possibly been EE's.

Is it just the way the dominos fell or does anyone think the staff specifically wanted certain offensive recruits to be EE's over possible defensive EE's? Whether that be bc the staff thought they could get the defensive guys up to speed quicker than the offensive guys, the holes filled by the offensive EE's were of greater importance, the offense is more important in Butch's system as far as dictating pace of game or what?

Just curious how much planning and projecting, if any, you guys think the staff put towards determining who would benefit 118 the most by EE'ing with how many EE spots we had this past cycle.

Gosh... I cant wait until the 2016-2017 season.

I can't wait for this season to watch all the young talent perform. A 6-8 win season with tons of young talent making plays will set up for another big recruiting class and even more excitement for the following years.

Ideal 85. I see a lot of how many and such we need, so I figured I would put together an ideal 85 towrds scholarship limit. Again, I dont know how right this is, but I think it makes sense.

QB- 5
RB- 5
TE- 5
OL- 15
WR- 12

Offense Total- 42

DL- 16
LB- 9
CB- 6
NB- 2
S- 6

Defense- 39

K/P/LS- 4

Evan Woodberry (can't find the link at the moment) got an ideal number from Butch a while back and it looks more like this.

QB-4
RB-6
WR-14
TE-6
OL-14

DL-14
LB-11
DB-14

K/P - 2

Butch Jones shed some light on his roster "formula" last week during his statewide post-Signing Day tour.

In a perfect world, he said, the Vols would have 15 of the 85 available scholarships devoted to offensive linemen, five for quarterbacks and 12 for wide receivers.

He didn't expand on the other spots, and we didn't have time to ask him.

Yeah, so I dont know why you need 11 LB's. Some for special teams, but I would rather have a couple more DL.

I was lost to increase the DL a couple or have more LB's.

I dont like going more then 3 deep outside of DL where I like 4 Deep.

Also you cant say 2 for K/P cause I think you have 4 ST scholarships most times.

Young Kicker, Starting Kicker, Punter, Long Snapper.

I imagine some of those LBs get turned into pass rushing DEs like Maggitt and Weatherd. They still take up LB spots, technically.

Basevols win series with Vandy. Won game 3 by a score of 7-0.
Huge series win!

So what is the likelihood of medley coming in and taking the kicker job from bullock

That's probably closer haha i'd be surprised if he didn't unless an injury occurs. I expect him to take it and probably take over punting duties as a sophomore.
