QB competition..

JOSH SMITH CAN'T CATCH... why is he still playing? I don't care how open he can get.

You do realize that Pearson has dropped passes as well, right? All of them have. The only comment about Smith's drops that really matters is one that Jones made last year. He said that in practice JS had the surest hands on the team.

He played too early. He still needs development like most of the team. It is hardly time to toss him overboard... in Spring Practice... before his Soph year.

I like all 4 guys but you are absolutely wrong about Worley. He may not win the job but things would have been FAR worse with any of the other 3 playing early in the season last year. Peterman in Jones' opinion was 2nd to him... and we all saw what happened at UF... and what happened when Worley took over again in the 2nd half. With a little more help around him, it is possible if not likely that he would have brought them back into contention for the game. In desperation and with only one WR with even a clue about how to play, he threw for 149 in a half and moved the O. UT had 6 yds of total O in the first half and 214 in the second half.

I STILL do not understand the popularity of bashing the guy here. With playmakers who know what they are doing... he will be a good QB... IF he wins the job.

I agree. I think Worley would have taken us bowling had he not gotten hurt. I feel pretty confident that he'll be the starter come August, and that makes me feel comfortable. He may not have an arm like Bray and complete the big play, bomb td's, but he also doesn't turn the ball over and protects the football, unlike what we saw from Peterman and Dobbs.

Now, Ferg is unknown at this point, which is why I'm comfortable with Worley starting, if Ferg isn't the OBVIOUS starter in practice.

It really does worry me that we have posters on VN who are deciding on our QB position based on things they have heard. If I just knew the coaches were going to ultimately make that decision, I can't tell you how much more relieved that it make me.

Since you aren't going to allow the coaches to make that decision based on what they observe, it does seem paramount that you internet coaches should agree on one QB. However, you are scattered among at least 3 different ones. Not I'm really fretting.

It "worries" me that you think we're making decisions on here...bet they have to pull you off the watchtower after an episode of the Walking Dead

Just heard Swain said Riley was the best most consistent quarterback in yesterday's practice. Also just heard Brent Hubbs say that Riley is really committed and bought in and really getting a good grasp of the offense.

I have no official updates but if someone does they're welcome to share them.

I'd like to say that just from personal opinion and by watching the practice videos of late I think the leaders remain to be Worley and Dobbs.

I think Ferg and Peterman are just going to be watching the two big dogs compete.

At the end of the day, Worley was the best qb last year. He didn't turn the ball over. He took sacks over forcing passes. I think he will have the leg up, but I think Fergie is the qb of the future. I would love nothing more to see Nate comeback and make it competitive. I think Peterman has the best arm of the bunch. I think Worley is the guy vs USU.

People just talk...go on and on...like crazy people...c'mon KB!...he's a redshirt freshman...they can't play

Woodsman, 'tis interesting that you should make a link between nutritional patterns and injury rates. Here is some info that should interest you pertaining to deficiency rates of lowly vitamin D: "When assuming an optimal level of 75 nmol/L, one study in NFL players noted that up to 64% of athletes had deficient Vitamin D levels, with a correlation existing between players getting injured having less Vitamin D levels. Vitamin D deficiency appears to be correlated with increased risk of illness and injury among athletes, especially in regards to stress fractures” (Vitamin D - Scientific Review on Usage, Dosage, Side Effects | Examine.com). Of course, most NFL players and college football players, for that matter, are African-American and their darker skin predisposes them to greater risk for vitamin D deficiency, simply because a high concentration of melanin acts as a natural sunscreen and reduces skin's ability to synthesize vitamin D from sun exposure. Without supplementation for vitamin D, serum levels will naturally decline during the late fall, winter and early spring, which would predispose athletes to greater injury risk during those periods, based on the research study cited above.

Worley threw worm brusiers almost every game. I can't see how Worley will start. He's one of the worst I've seen at UT.

Seriously. If he can't catch in practice, no way he can catch in a game. Put the dude on defense or something if we are in desperate need of his speed and agility.

According to the coaches he catches everything in practice hardly ever drops a ball. They had too play him too early because of lack of depth at that position in an ideal situation he would have been redshirted.

"Keep your eye out for Ashford. He has jumped up in the depth chart and has seen noticeable snaps." - Herbbs

if petterman is the front runner, your looking at the biggest turn around off season in history!!! he sold his soul!!!

Remember Crompton the last 6 or 7 games he played like a AA the 1and half years before he could not hit a barn 10 yards away, just maybe he can pull a Crompton, I guess wishful thinking.

I think we're jumping the gun on Peterman. Granted, that half against UF was about as big of a train wreck as you could imagine a qb having, but it's a little unfair to judge a guy based on one half, w/ an injured hand, on the road, in a hostile environment, making 1st start as a freshman.

There was more than one question about Dobbs. The other was his accuracy which the coaches said he was struggling with in practices last year. I don't know what practice reports you've been reading, but nothing I read has made it sound like Dobbs has had amazing practices, whereas there are almost always notes about Riley or Worley doing something very well.

I want the best QB to be the starter. It might be Dobbs. But at the same time, I'm not going to overlook the facts just to fit my agenda.

but that's what you are doing.

I think ppl who want Dobbs to start would be just as happy if Hurd was named the starting QB. At least he may break a few more long runs lol. Dobbs' arm strength and decision making was absolutely terrible IMO.

beyond ridiculous. the mizzou game kills this whole post and they won the SEC East

Did you miss the Vandy game ... or did those total 16 yds passing until the final seconds when he completed his last two throws for 37 yds impress you . He still only had 53 total yds passing

who did he have to throw too? i'll wait......

and vandy beat some traditionally good teams last year. teams we didn't, so........

don't care who's playing wr when the ball comes out of his arm and hits the dirt. jerry rice nor any other all-time great can do anything about those type throws

Oh, I don't know, man. Franco Harris caught a pass that hit him in the shoelaces.

I don't care if he had the both of us to throw to . With 15 seconds left in the game he had thrown for 16 yards . They could have drawn ticket numbers and the winner would have thrown for more than 16 freaking yards ....Please make all the excuses you want but he flat out sucked against Vandy.

He seemed to throw a nice tight spiral on middle passes and short stuff. His arm looked suspect to the outside. I was actually surprised the other day. He has gained weight and strength but his arm didn't look much if any stronger.

I've heard it said that Arm strength is a either you got it or you don't type of thing. I'm sure it can be helped a little but not drastically. I keep thinking about the TD pass Dobbs throw to Croom in the UK game that was 5-6 Yards short but the UK player bumped it like a volley ball back to Croom.

Whenever Riley drops back to pass...it's out fast...and gets there in a hurry...whenever this observation is brought up,you hear "meh" and something mumbled that rhymes with Bray...as is always stated by this reporter...whoever wins gets my full support...just quit with the high minded beat down on people that are high on Ferguson :hi:

On the message boards I speak my mind , because that's what they're for ... But in the end I will back whoever Butch decides gives us the best chance to win

Of course , he better be right ;)
