The good news? He's improved every year he has been here.

The bad news? It's been minimal improvement.

Anyone that can predict what the rest of Coach Martin's tenure beholds is just guessing.

I wouldn't call making a run at the sweet 16 and almost matching the farthest we've ever gone in the tournament minimal. We showed huge strides this year, in both mental and physical toughness. I do agree though, that this type of play and performance must be sustained. But, I'm optimistic.

I think we can predict with some certainly. He has "improved" each year with a roster that was not all his.

Without Pearl's recruits, we can forget about improving. You guys are going to see this very soon, starting next year.

I would add to this that some more good news is some of the players have shown marked improvement individually while playing for CCM (Richardson, Stokes, McRae, Moore, etc). CCM's player development has proven to be very solid.

Other bad news is CCM unexplainably appears to struggle with in game coaching/adjustments, especially on offense and in bounds plays. CCM would benefit greatly from the addition of a seasoned offensive assistant coah.

Considering Jordan McRae and Jeronne Maymon had done nothing before Martin, and that the two best players during the tournament run were Martin recruits, this is a bad example.

No, we got hot at the right time and got a favorable draw in the tournament. We sure as hell weren't showing mental toughness up until three weeks ago.

I don't give a damn what happened in the regular season. We made the tournament and made noise when we were there, showing mental toughness, tenacity and playing sound basketball. You detractors can try to angle it however you'd like, but the results don't lie.

Pearl's best teams had some key holdovers from the previous coach. That's often the way it works.

Arguably CBP's worst team was his last...entirely his players.

If you can't get behind the team because it no longer has any Bruce-era players on it...well, that sucks for you.

I am concerned that this is very similiar to another situation in U.T's past. remember in 2007 when we snook in the back door to win the S.E.C. east? We lost the S.E.C. championship game, then beat Wisconsin in the bowl game. Hamilton gave Fulmer an extension, then in 2008 we had a 5 win season. The lack of recruiting finally caught up to us.

I hope Hart guards against this happening. Martin takes us to the Sweet 16, gets an extension, then in 2014 things fall apart.......

That "integrity" involves meeting with other schools about their opening while he is still our coach? Interesting. Seems like just about anyone can claim they have "integrity", then.

How did we finish last year? And the year before that? What was our postseason like then?

Pearl met with Memphis while at UT. Point being?

Tennessee went 6-2 in conference, beating UGA who also finished 6-2. They won the right to go to Atlanta. End of discussion.

Show me your credible source where that was reported at the time. Otherwise, you're just making it up or repeating rumors, which anyone can do.

Also, is Pearl really your model of "integrity"? Interesting...

No, he's not, but proving that the man so many people claim "loves Tennessee and wants to be here" looked elsewhere.

Yeah, the fanbase that packs an arena with top 10 attendance three years running for an unranked team.

Mocked by what media? The same media that has been talking up the Auburn Pearl hire? The same media that will be happy to trumpet that pairing for years to come?

As I've said before, I never called for Martin to be fired and I never signed a petition of any kind. But, it's simple math and history here. If he is flying out to meet with officials about another opening after 1 NCAA tournament appearance here, then chances are he wants to leave and will leave sooner or later.
I've always said his goal is to coach in the B10.
That's one to two years away. You'll eventually get your wish.

Did you really just cite Moses007 from hogville.net as a credible source?

That was the very first thing when googling "Pearl to Memphis" when I didn't recall what year exactly it was. Convenient you ignore the other ones. Guess it didn't fit your argument so you decide to pretend it wasn't there.

And if you're saying that you're judging Martin for talking to another school, you're pathetic. Are you saying you have worked with the same company your whole life? Or are you so inept at your job that you've been fired every time you got a new job?

Wow, so you just cited three sources, none of which claim that Pearl interviewed for the Memphis job nor claim that he flew out to meet with their officials about the opening. Actually, none of them (not even Moses from hogville) actually claim that Pearl even met with Memphis. Just vague speculation (except for Moses who apparently got all the contract details) about the possibility of a job offer.

Thanks for proving my point for me.

This is why you can't discuss anything with folks on this forum anymore. People just repeat idle conjecture and speculation as if it were fact as long as it supports their argument. I guess we can blame years of tabloid journalism and gossip blogging, but folks like whobethis16 seem to think that if they can type a rumor into google and find someone else repeating it, then that gives them carte blanche to treat it as a fact and even add additional details to it and treat them as facts as well.

This is basically the same as lying, except liars are usually more creative.

Are you talking about yourself or other people on this board? I can't tell the difference.

Ah yes, once again, why offer any facts for your arguments if you can just rely on baseless accusations and uncited insinuations toward those who disagree with you? Classic.

I pointed out, in detail, where whobethis16 was in error and made claims without any credible source. Don't kid yourself, UTRavens, there is a big difference between me and people like you.

Nope. All one need to do is read your post above to see where you insinuated I made stuff up without offering any shred of evidence. I stand by my statement about you.

Sorry, that's a negative. You've been known to use dishonest spin in your arguments on many occasions. That's pretty common knowledge around here.

Conveniently for you, I guess, I don't remember the exact topics where it happened and it's not worth the effort to dig it up. So I guess you "win" this little argument since I suppose I can't technically prove it. But it's still awfully rich of you in particular to be accusing others of arguing in a dishonest manner.
