BREAKING NEWS!!!Cuonzo Martin removes name from Marquette search

They were ranked by a ton of basketball publications. Generally between 17th and 29th. Maymon averaged the same rebounds, two fewer points and .5 less turnovers than his best season at UT. He was much better than anyone will give him credit for this season.

Show these ton of rankings. You are straight up making things up. We were not ranked by any real poll. And below 25 is not ranked. Even if you were right which you are not, we still finished in the top 16.

Did Michigan have more talent than we did? I didn't see it. They had a couple of very good outside shooters, but we had three bona-fide tournament caliber players too. They had a better coach. I think UT underachieved most of the year, then put together a nice NCAA run that might be a bit overblown because we really didn't beat anybody good. We'll see if Martin can build on it==he's ours, baby!

Yes Michigan has way more talent than Tennessee.

Maymon was crippled and could not jump or finish at the rim consistently. As a senior he should have been significantly better than as a sophomore. If you saw the same guy on the court this year as you did in his sophomore year, you really are crazy. I'm not saying he was a bad player this year, but I wouldn't say he was much better than average, and had a real hard time guarding anyone that could actually move around a little bit.
Yet, CCM & staff still expected him to guard GRIII in the Michigan game.

Hell, Buzz Peterson sucked compared to Martin, and Green was at best a push. I'm not even sure about Devoe...maybe that's a push also.

The only two coaches clearly better than Martin are Ray Mears and Bruce Pearl...and that's a high standard to match.

But give him time....who knows. :)

I like him myself. Tough cancer survivor. So he's not as media-friendly as Bruce...seems uncomfortable in front of the cameras, even mumbles. But he seems to have more integrity.

I can't see Zo either lying to the NCAA nor cheating on his wife. Give me a guy who has integrity and grit over a "slick willie" type any day. :)

good points

I posted them yesterday, but we were ranked in the pre-season top 25 of ESPN/Sporting News/CBS/FOX/Athlon and by virtue of being #26 in the AP, we were ranked in the top 25 by a good portion of AP voters. #29 by the coaches means that a good number of the coaches who vote had us in the top 25.

Good grief, I made nothing up.

Did Michigan have more talent?

PG - 4* ranked # 37 nationally
SG - 4* ranked # 72 nationally (big 10 player of the year)
SF - 4* unranked (second leading scorer)
PF - 5* ranked #11 nationally
C - 3* unranked (experienced senior)

Bench

Zak Irvin - 5* ranked 24th nationally

I would say Michigan was loaded with talent.

Did UTEP, Vandy and Texas A&M have more talent that Tenn?

Thompson
Hubbs
Richardson
Moore/Davis/Reese
Stokes

Plus the recruits

That line up does not make me think we will be terrible next year. However, if Stokes leaves I will be much more concerned.

a trend that puts us in the sweet 16 and one call away from the E8? I'll take it every single season

if in fact is was "every single season" which it isn't. CCM is 1 of 3 NCAAT at UT and 1 of 6 lifetime. Maybe the Vols get a return trip to the NCAAT with CCM and Stokes next year (cplcd with the J Rich we saw in the NCAAT).

Then open your eyes. People here love to try to prove their point with questionable statements. Trying to find a reason to justify their beliefs.

Just look:

2014 Mock Draft | NBADraft.net

2015 Mock Draft | NBADraft.net

Hmmm, two Michigan players in next year's lottery. I guess they have no talent.

1 win can be considered an upset. 4 maybe a trend

What about Arkansas and LSU, did they have more talent than Kentucky?

What about Wisconsin basketball this year? Man they should really be disappointed about losing to Northwestern (at home), Indiana, and Minnesota.

Also, I mean, Uconn, terrible season, they lost to Houston, and SMU (twice).

Yes, A&M lost 4 games they shouldn't have lost. They were disappointing losses no doubt, but there were also several impressive wins. All in all, I would say making the Sweet 16 is a pretty good result.

I rather go the the final 4 and win an occasional national championship. Why settle for the sweet 16? I like championships .

It was a great tourney run and could have been in the E8 . The team played their hearts out in that game and left it all on the court. ...I was as proud of the effort the team put in that game as any TN BB game I can remember.

The flip side is we were one possession away from not making the field of 64.

The flip side of that would be that U.T. was 2 3 point shots from a terrible shooter away from beating A&M twice. Sports work out that way sometimes.

no UT fan has ever seen their team play in the final 4 much less for the NC. Sure it's what we all want but setting that as an expectation is unrealistic at this point

what was our last real championship in basketball? Heck, any men's sport

Every team is going to lose to a team less talented at times. And every team should beat a more talented team at times too. This season, Tennessee did a lot more losing to teams less talented than it did beating teams with more talent. That is a fact.
