Not really.

With Kirkland down to UT and penn st, there is at least a chance UT gets him. Or at least he tries to commit to the Vols. I saw where penn st already has 2 ILBs committed for this class. Of course they could be planning to take more than 2. We'll see how it plays out.

As I said it comes down to how many the coaches can take at any given position. If 6 4-5* DTs want to commit to UT does that mean the staff takes them? Of course not. With Cherry already in the fold, it comes down to would the coaches take another MLB knowing if they do, they very likely end up short somewhere else.

I would love to see Kirkland end up a Vol. I think the kid will be a very good college football player. Just not sure I'd take him now and lose out on say Edoga, Richmond, Philips, or others needed at other positions.

What does Kirkland have to do with Edoga, Phillips, and Richmond? Makes no sense. Their all takes. Some people on here really overreact about numbers.

If Cherry was going to be the MLB for this class and then the staff decides to take another, IMO that would reduce another position by 1. Maybe it's OL. Maybe it's TE. Maybe it's another.

And some folks just ignore the fact there will be a set # of kids that can be taken. The coaches have to consider that # when taking kids at any given position. If 8 quality OL guys want to commit, of course they can't take them all as ten they miss on maybe a RB, QB, or DBs. "They are all takes" is just something people claim with little to nothing to support it. Harrell, Clark, and others were "all takes" a month ago. Now, obviously not so much.

Are they pushing for him now? I think Brent or Paul said last week they didn't think he was at the top of their LB list. But if they pushed they'd probably be tough to beat.

I really doubt it. Especially with all the talent we are in on at that spot. I mean, there are some elite LB's really high on us

He's recruiting very well at PSU and I hope that continues. Obviously not with kids they are going up against TN for but I'm sick of OSU playing in a perceived elite conference with little to no competition where none of the other schools can recruit worth a damn or field a team worth anything. I'd cheer for PSU all day long over OSU and SCUM.

They need some outside guys far more than inside guys. I like Kirkland as a prospect but I'm not sure if Tennessee will push hard for him with Cherry already in the fold. Can either of them leigitimately play on the outside in college? They seem to be in solid to good shape with DeBerry, Tucker, Sapp, etc...

Bingo. Add Sapp & DeBerry and make an exception if Josh or Roquan Smith want In and call it a day.

Call me crazy, but how many LB's do we need? We run a nickel package most of the time with only 2 LB's, and we got a stacked class last year. Don't wanna go all LV on the numbers, but we could use more help elsewhere.

Is there any shot we take Brandt Mitchell or is he gonna get lost in the shuffle of these higher profile guys

My guess would be 3 LB's in this class. Maybe 4 if one of them is a hybrid type guy like a DeBerry who you cold line up at either DE spot or really any LB position.

My guess was 3 including DeBerry.

Possibly a 4th, but IMO it would be much closer to NSD before the staff would take another depending on spots available.

Kirkland could be now leaning toward UT with psu recently taking 2 other MLBs. I'm just not sure UTs coaches will be ready to take him if he wants to commit anytime soon.

He was just in town this weekend. We had him as a visitor in the War Room, just haven't had time to catch up with him because I've been out of town this weekend with the Camp Series this weekend.

From talking to a few people he really likes Tennessee, and Tennessee likes him. It will be interesting to see how Tennessee handles linebackers this year. Penn State is the other school really involved. Hoping to catch up with him tonight.

"I did an overnight with the players and then just spent some more time with them and just got to see what the dorm life was like as well as their spring practice," Kirkland Jr. said. "We were able to watch the game together against Michigan and then after that we headed to the dorms and just hung out."

"I actually spent time with most of those guys (Jack Jones, Kyle Phillips and Dillon Bates) and we just hung out and had a good time," Kirkland Jr. said. "Especially talking to Dillon since he signed there already. I was just talking to him on why he was talking to the Vols and he was really excited about his decision and really comfortable with it and he was expressing to me why he chose the Vols and that was awesome as well."

"Every time I go down there it feels like family, everybody is really close. Everybody knows everyone and the coaching staff is close and they are great with my family overall," Kirkland Jr. said. "They're just five hours away from my house so I'm really comfortable with it and coach Jones has done a great job as well as recruiting my parents. It's very comfortable for me right now."

"What really will be a big factor in my decision is where I can go and feel comfortable and feel where I'm wanted a lot, as well as the relationship with my family and that coaching staff and that they are going to take care of me," Kirkland said. "Also, it's about education and I want to be a political science major because I want to be a sports agent and a lawyer as well. If it's the school that offers that the best that's the school I'll end up choosing."

Kirkland plans to put out a top 8 soon and decide on May 30th.

Yeah I think they will take 3 LBs. We need to build depth all across the board. We need to get to the point where we have Juniors backing up Seniors and sophomores backing up juniors. No need to take a break cause last year class was good.

Totally forgot about Dews. He's going to be a good OLB This Defense class is going to be sick especially with the D-line and LB talent coming in.
