'15 TN ATH Jauan Jennings (UT commit 4/7/14)

I really doubt that. I dont see him playing QB.

"Yes, he's being recruited as a quarterback." -Fortenberry

"Tennessee certainly isn't the only school recruiting him as a quarterback. Auburn and Mississippi State are very much in it and are recruiting him hard as a qb as well." -Fortenberry

Again, I understand that, but I dont see him projecting as a QB over time.

Thats just the way I see it.

edit: I would like nothing more then to eat crow and him do amazing at QB by the way.

I have no idea where he will end up position wise. But I sure would like an elite athlete like Nick Marshall running our spread and outrunning corners down the sidelines. Such a different dynamic and it would be awesome if Jauan Jennings pulled it off. we have had some statues back there in recent years.

It's kind of a trade off IMO. If you like to see your QB running away from DBs on the sideline, that is great as long as your not interested in landing top tier WRs. Top caliber WRs/TEs want to play in an offense where the QB throws it a lot. If your QB is always looking to take off with the ball, your WR recruiting will take a huge hit IMO. Give me a QB who can take off and run 4-5 times a game for 4-5 yards a carry and I'm good. I'd much rather see weapons at WR/TE/RB making the plays down the field.

If that's what you like. Ive seen several teams in recent years with a dual QB and great receivers. And just because a guy is a dual. doesn't mean you can't throw alot. Oregon has awesome receiver and TE talent. Mizzou does fine. Kendall Wright did great with dual
QB. D. Williams still went to AU he and Sammie Coates will be fine with Marshall. Texas Tech had a great TE with very average QB play. Kingsbury just got a dual '15 recruit. Dukes Star WR did good with a dual QB. So did Clemson and they didn't suffer with WR recruiting.

When JC Shurburtt was on Bill King show Thursday he was talking about Jennings. He said he was projected at just a safety and would probably be a 5 star.

If the kid is happy with a "chance" to play QB, I think he is worth taking. I do think he ends up at S rather quickly w/e he ends up. If he is like Gibson and is "sold" on being a college QB, I don't think I would use a spot on him. If your just going to lose him to transfer if/when you try and move him to defense, I'm not sure I would push to get him. It does look like the coaches are going to take him, hopefully it works out.

See this doesn't make sense to me when they say things like this. If he is an athlete and they feel he would be a 5 star at a position shouldn't he be a 5 star athlete then? Maybe I'm just not thinking logically.

Maybe they mean if he were to focus on just being a top caliber S, he could be a 5*. Him trying to play QB as well could be slowing his development. When he goes to camps, he is going as a QB. That alone could keep the services from ranking him as a 5* athlete if they feel he is pushing to play a position they think he should not.

Hmmm I guess that makes sense. I'm just tired of these recruiting analyst saying stuff like that. They said it about north in 13. Gaulden this year. And now Jennings. I just feel if they felt they should be a 5 star shouldn't they have the ability to make that happen?

Edit: I'm not saying making a player a 5 star makes them better, but I feel these kids should be given the respect they earned by the services haha

I see no hurt in letting the kid have a shot at QB. For comparison purposes, I went back and watched Jennings highlights and Gibsons.

Obviously I'm not professional talent evaluator but Jennings looks extremely raw as a QB, but there seems to be potential there. He threw several dimes that his teammates dropped that would have been TDs. His arm strength looks average maybe better.

Gibson, at least to me, looks like the better runner of the two. He looks faster and he rarely gets caught in the open field. Jennings didn't break off as many long runs in his film. But the knock on Gibson seems to be his accuracy as a passer. Gibson sorta just lobs it up high and let's his guy run under it, that doesn't cut it at the next level. Jennings passes looked to have more zip, even on deeper routes.

Assuming he commits, even if Jennings never takes a snap at QB at UT the bottom line is UT is getting a great athlete and if the kid wants a shot at QB he should get it. The potential seems to be there the only question is if he can translate it to the next level and develop his skills and progress. Jmo
