Why wouldn't you use that 5 mil and buy a coach that's been past the elite 8?
Of course, this isn't a bad idea at all.
Do you really believe Hart will do it though?
Listen folks: WE ARE NOT KENTUCKY. We don't have to choose to pay only the football coach. Right now, I don't have a better name to coach at Tennessee than Bruce Pearl (if Cuonzo leaves). If I'm AD then, I'm looking for every way possible to make that happen.
If Cuonzo is lured away from TBA (for money, for the petition, whatever floats your boat) is the $5M buyout for Bruce Pearl the best money Hart could spend at this time?
Here's the rub though: paying the Auburn buyout would simultaneously be the best move the AD could make if Cuonzo finds greener pastures and also demonstrate his colossal incompetence (for those not already aware).
I think it highly likely Hart never approached BP with a "Don't be too quick to take something; you're in our thoughts. See how it plays out first." If Hart keeps his options open, if he defies Jimmy the Cheek, if he was working to advance UT athletics, it is possible we could have Bruce Pearl ready to fill the (potential) void.
Dave "sit on hands" Hart though has, once again, sat on his hands. If Cuonzo leaves, Hart has already failed (again).
Give us a name.
Uhhh its not a matter of firing Martin anymore, he was allegedly offered a raise/ extension and hasnt signed it. It would seem hes off to MU. Oh well let him take his ball and go home

I'm not the one making contradicting posts. You go from saying Hart won't make a play for a big name but then say we're not Kentucky and can pay, and somehow come to the conclusion it means we have to go get Pearl.
Save us all your idiotic "logic" and just be honest: you want Pearl back and you literally don't want anyone esle.

Pearl, that lying carnival clown who tried to get a kid and his family to lie for him, who included his staff in the lie, will NEVER EVER coach at Tennessee again. He brought shame, not just on himself, but on those around him, on the university, and on the state.
This is a really stupid thread, and those who keep harping BBB or whatever are just jumping on a crazy train.
No, Bruce Pearl will not ever be a Volunteer basketball coach again.
All over the basketball forum, he goneI haven't heard of this, but if true and he decides to leave, then good luck to him. The SEC is becoming a tough neighborhood to play in all sports male and female. We should be proud of that. But we need coaches willing to coach in this conference environment, recruit upper tier talent, and do everything they can to win. If this environment is too stressful, move on. I'm not going to hold that against any coach.
I'd gladly take Pat Riley.
I'll gladly take someone with a proven getting to and succeeding in the NCAA tourney.
I'm not convinced Dave Hart can attract any such individual not named Bruce Pearl - which is a special situation.
Simple.
