I'm not doubting that you have heard this DTO. My son plays for Blackman, Jauan told him that UT is recruiting him at safety. He said he likes the staff. Plenty of time before signing day. He could change a lot of minds.
Philip Shadowens, the football coach at Blackman High School in Murfreesboro, Tenn., has confirmed that Top247 athlete Jauan Jennings is scheduled to announce his college choice April 7 at approximately 10:15 a.m. EDT.
Shadowens said he hasn't spoken with Jennings about his top choices over the past few days, but he believes Jennings will be deciding between Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State and Northwestern. Ohio State also still might be in the mix, but Shadowens said he's not sure whether the Buckeyes will be one of Jennings' finalists.
Vanderbilt isn't listed among his finalists. According to his coach he's choosing between Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Northwestern and Ohio State.
From what I'm told so far today is that Alabama and Mississippi State both want to take him as an athlete, not a quarterback. I believe Tennessee is in the same boat but I've also been told that there's a possibility that the Vols could take a "change of pace" quarterback in this year's class.
Still waiting for answers back from those in the know at the other schools.
What Woody said about UT taking a "change of pace" QB is very interesting. Bama and Miss st want him as an ATH? Maybe Butch sold Jennings on being our change of pace QB and since the other schools want him as an ATH, maybe he's going to pick the Vols. Do it.

I really think he has the athleticism to play wide receiver, linebacker or maybe even defensive end. He's about 6-foot-4 now so I'm not sure safety is really in the mix. I'm just not sure about his future at quarterback. I really think he can be a perfect short yardage or special package wildcat type of guy, but I know he thinks he can be a QB. The school that lands him might be the one that convinces him he has the most legit shot to play quarterback.
As far as a favorite, I really have no clue. I think Ohio State has some other guys higher on their list, as does Miss. State, Tennessee, Auburn, Alabama. That leaves Northwestern, a school that doesn't really give much info to guys like me. We'll continue to dig.
