Martin has EARNED an extension and a raise

Playing AD is easy. Its much tougher finding quality coaches than we think. Few teams find the sure thing. Not as easy as open checkbook. So many factors. Ive seen enough misses. I will ride with Zo.

I said Dayton's coach has done more or equal to Zo with considerably less.

Ok, what's your point? That doesn't always equate to doing more with more talent. Pearl is a good example of this, as is Calipari.

With that said, I do think miller is a damn good coach and gonna be a very hot name. My guess is he ends up the new Marquette coach when it's all said and done.

Dont mean to chime in, but we arent going to compare recruiting to Dayton to recruitng to recruiting to UT are we? Millers sweet 16 is more impressive that Martins (if he gets it) but I still would rather have CCM at this point.

Like I said, VCU recruits just fine, they're in the same league as Dayton.

And like I said above, I do think Miller's a hell of a coach, I'm not trying to discredit him in anyway. Just making the point, if you're having to decide who's better, is it financially smart to make a change for said person?

Exactly. Very few sure things. Could Dave Hart take a shot on Archie Miller? Sure. He would have to buyout Zo, buyout Zo's staff, buyout Miller, and probably buyout miller's staff.

Then he has to pay Miller, and pay Miller's staff. So before it's all said and done you're talking about probably close to $10 million you've invested into that swap? You better be damn sure of 1. What you're getting rid of and 2. What you're getting...if you're going to make an investment like that.

It's why I agree with you and think you'll see Hart ride with Zo. He'll extend him, give him a raise and probably try to keep the buyout reasonable with a decent number rolling up in about 2 years. In 2 years if we have missed the dance two years in a row we will be in a much better spot to make a move, and you can do so confidently knowing what you're getting rid of.

The point is you asked where we would look if Zo left for another job. Who might be better.

And I agree that you dont make the change. I think this run may be the turning point of CCM's career. I think he can build on this and learn from the bumps in the road. Also, there is much to be said about being a good fit. There may be a very good coach that may just be bad for a certain school. I dont think its always as simple as being a better coach. I look at Frank Martin at USC as an example. Also, perhaps Billy G turns out better had he stayed at A&M

No this started when it was brought up Zo might want to take another job (we pay no buyout). You asked where would we look.

Yep...check out Va Tech, Wake Forrest, BC, Auburn(with Ellis was there then went to Lebo), Bama, and some more schools...The schools were consistant winners and then those AD's wanted a change and set their basketball programs back several years...people forget recruiting in basketball is a lot harder than people say it is...I know this new Nike contract is going to work great

And I agree we could do much better...but I've got little faith in Hart to go out and hire Gregg Marshall. Ben Howland will likely already be employed, Buzz Williams has already switched schools, Pearl has gotten a new job. Who are all these likely candidates that you feel Hart could go out and land with significantly better resumes?

How can you assure me next year is a bad year? Stokes very well could return, we are in the market for a graduate transfer, and have a 5* returning at a position of need.

Gruden?

There are actually a number of mid major coaches with a better resume than CCM.......

That would take UT job for 2 milllion? Naming them is half the battle, hiring them is another story. Look at how many offers Shaka turned down. Altman turned down many while at Creighton, even taking Ark job then changing mind. The good ones dont just jump at first chance anymore.

Yep. Every now and then you see a school do it, but I see
More swing and miss than I see hit the homerun. Dont forget UK whiffing on 1, and Anthony Grant was on his way to being Florida coach.

Give me a few hours so that I be more specific

Not sure of serious but if you are going to make that statement you should have names on your mind, no? Mid major coa hes like Few, Shaka, etc dont just jump at any offer and get waaay more than a million. No college team could pry Brad Stevens from Butler. It aint that easy. If there are mid major coaches clearly better than CMM, they are getting paid big
