Martin has EARNED an extension and a raise

I would say he over performed in his first year, probably performed about where he should have last year, and is performing up to par again this year. This was supposed to be a sweet 16 team, according to most Vol fans, and the team has a great chance to reach the sweet 16. I'm also failing to see the chronic (can you have chronic anything in only 3 seasons) underachievement.

A chronic under performer?

He out performed expectations year 1, so right there is a good example that you have no idea wtf you're talking about.

What did we do, win < 20 games and lose to mtsu in the nit right?

After going 6 years straight into the tourney....

But it was his first year and I give him a pass on that as with any coach. The last 2 not so much.

You need to get your head out of your ass.

You do realize that first team lost Harris, Goins, Hopkins, and Williams. That is 4 starters if I remember correctly, and because of the looming sanctions, the recruiting class was essentially composed of players that no one else wanted. No, you probably don't realize that, but it's ok.

Next year we can give him a pass too since no one is expecting much. Hell, a play in game should get him coty honors!

No one knows what to expect, because you don't even know who is going to be on the team next year. Did anyone expect Josh Richardson to play this well? No, that's why they actually play the games instead of just debate them on the internet.

You realize Bruce left a mess and we were picked 11 of 12 in conference right? He overachieved.

Last year finished with 20 wins and met expectations without Maymon playing a game.

This year we were not ranked. We were expected to make the tourney. We did that. Met expectations. No matter the Am game or whatever people cry about we finished right were objective people predicted.

If we make the Sweet 16 we have over achieved a lot for a team not ranked pre season. A team who also lost the sixth man and top recruit for the year early and with the pf no where near 100% after sitting out a year with injury.

So when did he chronically under achieve or even under achieve? He met or exceeded expectations every year.

Stokes enrolled midseason.....thats a pretty big recruit there.

Yeah because if we hang him out to dry with no extension and no raise he will be able to recruit soooooo well...

At most schools when you make the tournament and win a few games you get an extension AND a raise (as well as the 50K bonus he will get), but we are gonna hold that line just so we let everybody know what they can expect when they come here to coach.

Those recruits think differently than you. They want to know NOW if the recruiting coach has a long term contract!
Our 2007 football class was ranked 3. After the 2007 season when we last played in the SECCG and Fulmer got a raise and extension our 2008 class was ranked 35, probably Fulmer's lowest rated signing class ever.

Martin has earned being fired. His team woefully underachieved in a pathetic conference. His recruiting has been weak at best. His coaching is suspect. They did get hot at the right time and have benefited greatly from getting a great tourney draw thus far. If we get past Mercer, Michigan (the 1st decent team we will play in this tourney) will crush this team.

If they give Martin an extension and raise, we deserve the crap hole he will turn this basketball program into.

How did they under achieve? Not ranked but expected to make the tourney. That is what happened. No sane person thought they would be top 15 with 7 or 8 losses.

Some people see the glass half empty, some people see the glass half full. It must be miserable to see the glass as shattered on the floor.

Some people see reality, some people are deluded. Tell me your thoughts on Martin next year at this time. Don't let one week out of 3 years cloud your judgement.

Finished 4th in a crap conference due to lots of bad losses and exited the SEC tourney in the Semi's. Barely got in the NCAAT with a play-in game but did get a lucky draw in the NCAAT and made the most of it. It is what it is. Martin has done nothing deserving of a raise or extension. If I was AD his butt would be walking after Michigan beats us down.

I wonder who said this?

"The SEC is just awful this year. I see no way in hell we make the NCAA. We have the basketball version of Dooley sitting on out bench with that blank dumbfounded stare."

Any guesses?

I don't even know who is going to be on the team, so how could I give you my thoughts. The cool thing about sports is that players actually have to play games before you can judge them.

I stand by all of that. He is the basketball version of Dooley, except he obviously has better luck than Dooley did. The team finally came together at the end of the season and started playing up to expectations. We snuck in the tourney, got a great draw and made the best of it.

Beating Iowa, Mass and Mercer are things this team should do. We shouldn't be surprised by this.

Interesting, you stand by your statement even though it has been proven wrong by actual facts?

Besides your entire post being irrational, haven't you learned that you can't make this kind of generalization with this team?

"We will be lucky to win 10 games"
"We will be lucky to finish above .500"
"We will be lucky to finish in the top half of the SEC"
"We will be lucky to get in the tourney"
"We will be lucky to win our play in game"
"We won't get to the round of 32"
