Never thought I would say that but he has the results now that put all the questions to bed.

This kind of season is all you can ask from any basketball coach at Tennessee.

We aint going to win the tourney but we are making noise and putting a positive light on the University of Tennessee.

Are we really rewarding 1 tournament appearance and a round of 32 win with a raise and extension? Are our expectations that low? Let's see what he can do next year without Maymon, McRae and maybe Stokes. Then, we'll talk extension.

He has earned another season, no extension or raise. Recruiting is still weak and let's see what he does next year with basically a new starting line up.

Without the extension, he wont be able to recruit

I was with you but he is now 2-0 in the tourney and you have coaches like Frank Martin at KSU who have lost 7 straight tourney games.

We could do a lot worse than him (I can't believe I just typed that).

Why does everyone say recruiting is weak? Hubbs was a 5 star and this past class was rated top 20 by ESPN?

We must give him a two year extension and also generous raise or fire him. That is the choices he needs to be able to recruit and assure players he will be here. He cannot do that without the extra years and the big raise assures he is not going elsewhere if offered. He will not be fired so I look for a two year extension and a 500 thousand raise. He has to be in the top five in the SEC in pay has to happen.

For the hundredth time, if Cuonzo Martin is going to be our coach next year, he has to get an extension. Hart would set our program and Martin up for failure if he didn't. If Martin isn't given an extension, then he may as well be bought out. Hart made the decision last year not to extend him, and it was fine. This year, he has to do something. This leads me to believe that Martin will get a 2 year extension and a raise.

I have never been critical of Cuonzo, yet I have never been on here singing his praises. I will say that he is a class act, and a good man, and I would much rather have him as a teacher, and a role model, and a representative of my university, than the last coach.

He played like a one star when he was out there this season. He could not guard anybody and was a very poor shooter. I am hoping it was his shoulder that was causing the problems and he will be the five star this season.

I expect Austin to make an immediate impact at the point and I expect Richardson to be the five star next season. I look for Moore to move into the starting lineup as well. So If Stokes comes back were a really good team if not then were gonna have to rely on freshmen post unless we can find a graduate student. A lot go be determined before next season. Hubbs being a player is one of those things that has to happen.

Lets look at what it would be like in the interview if Martin was not coming back.
AD: Coach we really want you to lead us
Coach, Ummm what happened to the last coach?
AD: Ummm things didn't work out
Coach: How long was he there?
AD Well lets see it wassssssss, errrr, 3 seasons I believe.
Coach, I thought he inherited a mess with the NCAA looming over him, and recruits not knowing if there would be a ban or penalties his first year.
AD : Well yes but that did not happen.
Coach, Did he have losing seasons,?
AD Not really, but we have big expectations here.
Coach, Oh he must not have ever made it to the NCAA.
AD: yes he did, just this year.
Coach, Well, he must have had off the court issues.
AD: None actually, he was a stand up guy, (nervous smile) but lts talk about coaching here. Have you seen our arena, ITS HUGE!!!!, and our team facilities are the best of the best!
Coach, yes very nice, guess that makes it where you can approach any kid that's being recruited by the best teams..
AD: Well almost..... Boy is it nice here or what?
Coach: what do you mean almost?
AD: Well Dr Cheek loves academics, so he made our entrance requirements higher than those other schools.
Coach: I understand that, but do you allow academic exceptions for borderline players like the other schools do?
AD: NO, Dr Cheek does not allow that at all.
Coach: Where is Dr Cheek,?
AD: Well he is over at a breakfast in the Physics Dept. He IS COMMITTED to education.
Coach: Is he committed to athletics as well.
AD: Oh heavens yes, last year he came to 3 of our games.
Coach: So do you have a lot of players coming back next year.
AD Yes,....... just no starters
Coach: Have a nice day!

One more win and your fighting off other colleges.

Think about it, 3 weeks ago Tennessee Tect would not have hired him, now he might bolt for another team and would be funny if you thought about it, he would get a new job new team and leave the one that's not got no talent next year.:post-4-1090547912:

Just like Fulmer won his raise and extension with that SEC East championship in 2007. How many years did it take to pay that off? This also smacks of the Chris Johnson contract. Giving an extension and raise based on a hot streak after languishing for the better part of 3 seasons is moronic. Give him a bonus if you must but that's the most I would do until next March.

No extension means no recruiting. So as long as you don't care if he is able to recruit anyone to U.T. then go ahead with this plan.

You're way off here. I don't know if you just don't really know basketball, but three weeks ago, Martin would've received a fair share of offers (Big Ten most likely). Most people who would been in a position to hire a coach realizes that Martin stepped into a horrible situation and did fairly well. Team improved each year on the job. To say he wouldn't have gotten hired at TN Tech is asinine.

I didn't know we were 0-20 already? We should just fold up the tent and don't play next year.

He's not exactly killing it as it is. Where's the McDs all Americans? Like I said in an earlier post in another thread., the best thing that could happen for the long term prospects of the program is for Cuonzo to get hired away.

Those recruits think differently than you. They want to know NOW if the recruiting coach has a long term contract!
