1 appearance in 3 years is not good enough for an extension at UT. He has years, let's evaluate after that. We don't need a guy sitting on 4-5 more years to buyout if doesn't work

I'm not buying the lack of talent thing; we'll be young but not untalented. We basically have three top 150 guys coming in, in Cofer, Austin and Cornish (who has dropped out as of now). That coupled with Hubbs, Richardson and Thompson gives us six top 150 recruits on the roster. We could be thin at quality big men depending on how Davis and Pops develop. We'll have growing pains, no way we won't be talented though. We should still have the 3rd-4th best roster in the SEC, behind UF, UK and possibly Bama.

Cornish's play will depend on his ability to keep his cool. A good friend of mine is an asst coach at Brother Martin and he and I caught up last week when I was in NOLA, and he we talked extensively about Jordan. He said he has trouble tuning out the crowd and has gotten into verbal confrontations with opposing fans because he hears everything. My friend attended Miss St so he's familiar with the SEC and has warned Cornish of what he'll he face when in Rupp or the O'Dome. When he's on he's unstoppable on the high school level, when you're in his head his whole game suffers, which happens too easily apparently. He'll learn to play defense as well or he'll sit because apparently he plays little to none.

As far as you know, if you had to list 5 schools that CCM would leave for what would they be? I guess you can rank TN in the five if you want...

I just dont think he wants to stay here. We need a coach that wants this to be a final destination,

I think a lot depends on the support he gets from Hart. If Hart gives him a 3 year extension and raises him to $2m a year, this may become a place he really wants to be. Would you want to work for someone who didn't appreciate your work though?

I'm sure he would like to coach Purdue, but there's no guarantee that jobs comes open anytime soon or that he would leave for there. On the flipside if Hart says I'll give you a 2 year extension and no raise, I could see him preferring just about any job.

I may be in the minority but he is doing what we all expected at the beginning of the year. The team looks incredibly intense and well coached right now.

However, I fully disagree with an extension at this point. Increase in salary, sure. His contract should be incentivized by making progression in the tourney anyways.

I really enjoy what CCM has done over the past month but we can't make irrational decisions based off emotion. :hi:

Like it was said on 990 the sports animal extend him too much and you would have to pay CCM a bundle if you have to fire him for having a losing record with a young team in 2014-2015.

You can't allow a coach to coach with 1 year on his contract, that's beyond foolish which is why you rarely see it.

As his current buyout is written that's correct, because his buyout is a certain percentage of remaining salary. You could reword the buyout so that it wouldn't be massive while still extending him.

I can't see Cuonzo leaving , he has great character . He's not the type of person to get mad and leave . He's put 3 years in building this program , I'm sure he wants to be here for a long time . Just my opinion though

CCM will be a major candidate for the Purdue job when they are looking for a new head coach in a season or two. I would bet Purdue would throw the bank at CCM a Purdue alum.

If we want Martin as our coach it would be a good idea to root for Purdue

why would Purdue go after a coach with a lower winning percentage and much less NCAA Tourney experience than its current coach?

That's fair, Painter's resume is really good early on, but as you know sports is a what have you done for me lately industry.

Let's say for discussions sake Pearl went to the CBI year after the Michigan debacle, and the missed not only the NIT but CBI this year. He wouldn't be on the hot seat going into next year?
