Extending Cuonzo Martin - How Long?

2 years max. Don't forget he barely got in the tourney. Also why when you fire a coach for bad coaching and loosing do we pay them? We do not get paid for a bad job. Should they not put that in a contract. I know what its all about . I am just saying.

So in other words the season does not mean nothing barely make the DANCE get hot get a pay raise, and do the same thing next good gig if you can get away with it.:)

Marquette would most likely look into CCM. I don't have proof but it's a school that makes sense if CCM was to leave now.

Wow. All the way back to a five year deal? That's a lot man. What's wrong with 2 years to get him back to four and a nice raise?

I think if you do extend him, you've got to give him 2 years but 3 seems unnecessary unless they make the buyout smaller. Right now it is 60% of his salary x years left.

He will be down to 1 year in April won't he? A 3 year extension puts him at 4?

He's not gonna leave. Him leaving now would be like a child storming off in huff. That's not in CCM's DNA.

Original deal was 5 years. He's in year 3 now and still has 2 left.

Ah ok, that's my bad. I was meaning 4 years, so yea, I could see a minimum 2 year extension.

Let's be honest, it depends on what happens the rest of the way. I think regardless he gets 2 years, but I could see him getting a huge raise and about 5 year extension if he made the final four :)

I agree. And it would be a mark against him if he ever wants another big time job. Fans are critical anywhere they expect to win.

Yep and CCM knows that. He understands what he has to do and he's gonna do it. And why storm off when you've proven yourself and have the prospect of beating the crap outta BP year in and out? Without the Rucker fabrication there's no reason to think Coach is going anywhere.

Hart is in a tough spot. There's a good chance UT will not have a winning season next year and then the pitchforks will be out for Hart for giving Cuonzo a raise and an extension. Best thing that could happen now is for someone else to offer Cuonzo big bucks to move on and the AD can hit the reset button on the program thereby giving the new guy (who will be a bargain bin pick) a few years to rebuild for another tournament run. May not be what anyone wants to read right now but it is the only way out of this situation that I can see.

I don't think next year is nearly as bad as you think

If you extend him this year knowing now that next year is a rebuild, you can't fire him next spring. That would be silly. Especially if we go to the sweet 16 this year.

If he makes the final 4, he can write his own contract.

Talking best case scenario today with a friend....

Stokes returns
Hubbs has a great year
JRich continues to improve
Get a post transfer in here that can play
Darius at the pg position

^^ that's a nice line up

Armani
Cofer
AJ Davis
Austin

^^ back ups. That's not a bad group at all.

Pops Reese are role players

Then you've got turman and Cornish to work in there.

Very good chance for a losing season in men's hoops due to matriculation and in football due to youth an stupid hard ooc schedule. AD will have a storm to weather no matter how good the recruiting is going at that point.

I don't think we have a losing record in either. Talent has been upgraded in football and the bottom feeders in this league aren't going to catch up to UT overnight. I know auburn has Pearl but sc, miss state, Texas am, ole miss are all gonna struggle next year. Haith at Missouri is terrible.

They're targeting Howland and Marhsall

Tyler Summit is an assistant coach for Marquette women's team. He also played under Martin.

Would not be surprised that he would put in a good word if they asked him.

Also, CCM played for the Bucks. That's a good recruiting pitch in that area.
