in Tennessee Vols Football Recruiting

Destrehan, LA.- Growing up the son of a football coach doesn’t exactly make you a lock to college stardom. But it certainly helps. Destrehan high standout Ethan Hutson has the pedigree and football knowledge a coach could ask for. He’s been pretty quiet under the radar until now. That could soon change. The 6’4″ 285 pound interior lineman is starting to pick up some offers and attention. Right now he’s on the verge of an offer from Tennessee perhaps. He discussed this topic and more in an interview.

“It’s going good. I have offers from Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Colorado, and Arizona. Those are my main BCS offers. I’m excited about recruiting I like it. I’m hearing from Texas A&M, Tennessee, and Arkansas right now. They are all talking about coming up for camp deal. I guess Tennessee could be close to an offer, we’ll find out Sunday maybe. I’m headed over there for a camp on Sunday night and will work out on Monday. I’m also going to Mississippi State soon.”

With the upcoming trip fresh on his mind he talked about what he’s hearing from Tennessee and his interest.

“It’s high. They are a great SEC program and they want to see me at camp. I’ll be there Sunday night to talk with the coaches, then work out on Monday. I’m hoping to walk out of there with an offer.”

Ethan went on to discuss what he’s looking for in a program.

“I’m still totally open but the SEC schools have my eye. I really want to play at a big SEC program. I’m looking at the coaches, the football program, and the area or surrounding city. I want a place with a lot of passionate fans. I would like to play in front of an SEC crowd. I’m graduating mid year so I will enroll early. I plan on committing early, probably in mid to late July. It could be later but that’s my idea right now. I’ve thought about a couple majors but don’t have one picked out just yet.”

His father was a former All American at Oklahoma and was also an early 3rd round draft choice of the Dallas Cowboys. Currently he’s the offensive line coach at Tulane and the talk of him playing for his dad has been brought up.

“Earlier I thought Tulane was a possibility. But now with these bigger offers we have decided it’s in my best interest to play at a larger school. My dad just wants the best fit for me. He helps with the process and knows what to ask which is nice. My parents will influence my decision but ultimately the choice is mine.”

Since there hasn’t been a lot of publicity about Ethan to date, he shared what coaches tell him about his game.

“They say I’m physical, and am great size for an inside guy. They tell me my hips have good flexibility as well. They mention those three things in order almost every time. I’m working on my speed and explosiveness right now. Last week I measured a 27″ vertical at an Ole Miss camp, that felt pretty good.”
