Scottsdale, AZ- Saguaro high standout Cyrus Hobbi has been a force on the recruiting trail in recent weeks. The standout lineman has already climbed up to 15 offers and more could be on the way shortly. Saguaro will be hitting the field for spring practices in early May, and Cyrus claims he is excited to take the field.

“We will be starting in early May, I think May 3rd. I have been just working out and stuff right now but it will be good to get back on the field. I am excited to meet some of the college coaches when they come to watch us practice.:

Currently he claims that Arizona State, Arizona, Cal, UCLA, Nebraska, Washington, Notre Dame, Michigan, Alabama, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oregon State, and Boise State have all offered. Originally he was hearing from Texas and claims they loved his film, but they filled up at his position early as often happens at Texas. Ohio State also claimed the same scenario.

One of the premier SEC teams also promised Cyrus an offer should he visit.

“Florida said they would offer me if I came out there for a visit. I don’t know if I’ll go out there though, it’s a long ways but we’ll see.”

The SEC champs also stepped in with an offer, and Cyrus was pretty excited to hear from them.

“Alabama is the defending national champs. I think it says a lot when they send you an offer. I want to find out more about the SEC, I’ve always grown up in Pac-10 country, and I know it is a totally different style and environment. I really want to find out more about the south. I’m going to New York this summer, on my return home I’ll be stopping at some schools. Alabama will be one of them for sure.”

Tennessee happens to be another school likely to host Cyrus on campus this summer.

“Tennessee sends me lots of mail. I talk to coach (Peter) Sirmon there. He seems pretty cool. The old staff promised me an offer there, but it never came. Well the new staff took over so my coach called to find out what’s going on. They looked at my film and sent an offer out right away.”

Virtually the entire Pac-10 has extended him an offer, except for one in particular.

“Oregon is definitely one of the schools I will visit. I have a buddy that committed there, Nick Rowland. We see each other every couple of weeks. He tells me how much he loves it and how beautiful it is up there. He said they really treat him well and he loves the offensive line coach, coach (Steve) Greatwood. I spoke with coach Greatwood over the phone, he said he would be down to see me this spring with an offer. He said they don’t offer recruits until they have formally met at least once.”

This summer Cyrus is hoping to tour several schools to gather as much information as possible about each school. He also said he doesn’t really have a plan to commit early.

“Well I will be going to New York as I mentioned, so on my way back through I know right now I will stop at Tennessee and Alabama. I also want to head over to Cali (California) and tour all the big schools there like Cal, UCLA, and USC. From there I will make my way up north through Oregon and up to Washington. I’ll take some more visits after my senior season, I don’t know maybe at an Under Armour game or something I’ll make my announcement.”

With all of this early attention Cyrus spoke about what he is looking for in a school.

“I need to have something to do besides football. So the surroundings will be important. I have taken an interest in theatre recently, so I may check into that. Communications also interest me. I’m looking at the environment, my position coach, and the coaching staff. I would like to play early, like before my junior year, but I don’t have to.”

Most schools have mentioned Cyrus as a guard in their offense. At only 16 years of age, he could easily grow into a tackle down the line.

“I will play wherever coach tells me. I’ll play defense if needed. I actually like defense, maybe even more than offense, I play both ways at school. I played along the whole line last year except for center. I played every position on both sides. I could easily grow more since I’m only 16.”

With lots of attention and numerous phone calls from college coaches, Cyrus explained what the coaches like about his game.

“First thing all of them tell me is they say I’m very physical and very agressive. That’s my favorite part of my game. I can move well, stay low, and have good technique are a few other things they mention. I have good versatility they also tell me.”
