in Tennessee Vols Football Recruiting

Shannon BrownShannon Brown is poised to be one of the top linebackers in the nation for 2011. He holds offers from Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, East Carolina, and yesterday was offered by Clemson.

Brown is a 6-foot-2, 225 pound middle linebacker who runs a 4.6 forty and also plays running back for his high school team.

He talked with Volnation about his season, recruiting, and some teams that he is interested in.

“It’s been a tough year for me,” Brown said. “We had an up and down year and ended up finishing out 7-6, losing to Buford in the 3rd round of the playoffs. I have a lot of work to do in the off season because we should have done a lot better than our record was.”

Brown has been regarded as a devastating run stopper, who has the ability to go sideline to sideline with deceptive speed.

“I really take pride in the weight room. I don’t want anyone to beat me so I put in the time and effort to be the best. I love taking on fullbacks and lineman when teams try to pound the ball. I also love chasing down running backs and making plays in space.”

Brown has seen a lot of attention early on in his recruiting process, one school in particular that has him excited about is Alabama.

“When Alabama offered me a scholarship I was so excited. They have an amazing campus, coaching staff, and stadium. When I walked into Bryant Denny by myself for the first time I just felt it. I felt like I could be playing for the Crimson Tide. Coach Saban is one of the few head coaches that I have talked to and I really have a lot of respect for him as a coach and as a teacher. Coach Willis is great too. When I went to camp there this summer it just felt like home already.”

Tennessee is another school that Brown is interested in. They appear to be a top contender for his services thanks to the impact Coach (Lane) Kiffin has made on Brown

“I love what Coach Kiffin is doing with recruiting at UT,” Brown said. “He has brought back excitement to the Vol program and a lot of talented players want to play for a coach like him. Their stadium is amazing, and you can tell by watching Vol games on television that it would be electric to play in that type of atmosphere. Tennessee is definitely a team that i want to learn more about.”

Another school that Brown mentioned was Georgia.

“Georgia is a school that my I grew up following. I have a lot of family that likes Georgia and Coach Richt has talked with me. It’s early and my feelings could change but I’m not feeling them right now. I went to the South Carolina game and it was a shoot out at Samford Stadium. I just wanted people to sit down so I could watch the game. Like I said, it’s early but right now I’m not really feeling them.”

Brown says that he is looking forward to the camp, combine, and clinic circuit in the future.

“I’m working on my overall strength and my pass coverage. I am going to try to keep my weight and try to build up my speed. I went to camp last summer at 240, I’m at 225 now and I’m going to try to maintain where I’m at weight wise. I’m going down to the Under Armor Combines in a few weeks and that should be pretty fun. I’m going to try to go to as many camps as I can this summer also.”

“I’m not naming any favorites because I know that they’re a lot of schools that said that they’re going to offer me as soon as they get some more film. Everyone is going to get a chance to recruit me and I’m looking forward to the process. I am looking forward to taking some unofficial visits and checking out these schools. I’ve been to Georgia for a game but I really want to see Tuscaloosa and Knoxville again.”

Stay close to Volnation for much more from Shannon Brown.

We’re gonna need some LBs next season. Not as much as O-Line, but we’re gonna be pushin’ thru another mediocre winning season. 2011 is a different story though, IMO.

He sounds like he’s ‘Bama bound, at this time, but with the impression that CLK seems to have made we might have a good chance with him. Whatever happens, there is going to be a good group to choose from. I believe our coaches will get what we need. CLK has done a great job so far. They sure have gotten a lot of cream to the top with what was here to work with.
GO VOLS!!!
