William Barr, H.W. Bush-era attorney general, eyed as possible Sessions successor

President Trump wants to nominate William Barr, the George H.W. Bush-era leader of the Justice Department, as his next attorney general, sources told Fox News.

While Trump does not know Barr, he likes the immense respect Barr commands and the fact that he has earned bipartisan support in the past, the sources said.

Still, other sources indicated that Trump could still decide to go with someone else. Others believed to be under consideration include Texas Rep. John Ratcliffe and former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. Those close to Trump are divided over the choice: One source close to the White House told Fox News that Barr would be a bad choice, saying “Barr could be worse than Jeff Sessions."

Attorney General Jeff Sessions resigned at the president's request after the November midterms. For months, Trump lambasted Sessions in public over his recusal from the Russia investigation. The president then named Matthew Whitaker, who was chief of staff to Sessions, acting attorney general.

The Washington Post first reported Thursday that Barr, who led the Justice Department under Bush from 1991 to 1992, is the leading candidate to replace Sessions. The paper cited two sources in saying Trump has told multiple people in recent days that he plans to nominate Barr.

The Chief of Staff is a high stress job with a high turnover rate and Kelly is heading off into the sunset.

LOL didn't he just call Tillerson lazy and dumb? All, literally all of the people with a modicum of intelligence and class have been voted off the island. Remember when the red hats were trying to make the case that it'd be "OK" because he'd surround himself with "the best" because he was a "super businessman?"

Jared Kushner, the husband of Trump’s daughter Ivanka and already an official White House adviser, met with Trump Wednesday about the job, a top Republican close to the White House told HuffPost. He and two others close to Trump or the White House who confirmed Kushner’s interest in the position did so on condition of anonymity to discuss the president’s staffing considerations freely.
Kushner has been pushing his own candidacy with Trump, citing his work on a criminal justice reform package and a claimed ability to work with Democrats, one person said. “I don’t know why he thinks that, when the Democrats are mainly going to be coming after Trump,” the source said.

President Donald Trump announced Saturday morning that Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke will depart from his administration at the end of the year.
"Secretary of the Interior @RyanZinke will be leaving the Administration at the end of the year after having served for a period of almost two years. Ryan has accomplished much during his tenure and I want to thank him for his service to our Nation," Trump wrote in a tweet.
The President continued in a second tweet: " ... The Trump Administration will be announcing the new Secretary of the Interior next week."
