Vols Rank #3 - SOS - 2014 Season

No arguments there. It's a very silly way of ranking SOS, but bamawriter was trying to point to Bama's SEC East opponents as the reason their schedule is so low on this list, which is not the case.

On this particular list, yes. But this list includes FCS and transitional teams that the NCAA's method doesn't count. Vandy's schedule is boosted by the inclusion of a 10-3 Charleston Southern and an 8-4 Old Dominion, neither of which will actually put up a fight.

According to the NCAA:

Vandy: 60 - 66
Bama: 69 - 69

Take out the cross-division games, and the disparity between the two gets worse.

Not exactly. I think he was trying to point out that when these games were scheduled, which in most cases was well over 5 years ago, having UT, UF, WVU, and even SMU on the schedule would not have been viewed as weak competition.

I don't think anyone is arguing that they dont have a favorable schedule, but its mostly the result of things beyond their control.

Agree. Like Vandy, Bama has a ridiculously weak OOC. Btw, that's absolutely the most smack talk anybody's getting out of me regarding the Crimson Tide until we stop losing to them every year by 5 tds.

Post season SOS for 2013, which is more important pre season SOS showed, according to Jeff Sagarin, the PAC 12 had:

Stanford
Utah
Colorado
UCLA
Washington St.
Arizona St

All in the top 10 in SOS.

That's what nine conference games will do for you.

If you want to be the best you have to play the best

Not in college football. Florida State proved that last year based on a pretty weak schedule. Alabama has proven a few times.....and they were definitely the best teams in the country.

With the new system those teams won't be able to get away with that anymore. SOS will be huge.

Bama and college football, in general, caught a break in 2012 when Ohio St. was on probation. Otherwise it would have been OSU vs. ND in the BCS title game. It would have looked good on paper but in reality would have been a joke.

Agree, but I'm comfortable saying Bama would've spanked the hell out of OSU pretty much like they did ND.

Either way, whether it was Bama or OSU, both would've played a poor schedule before getting to the NC game, putting the lie to the idea that "to be the best, you gotta beat the best"....at least not with any frequency in college football.

Bama had such a cupcake schedule this year. Yet, if it were ours, I would be nervous about winning some of them. Lulz

And Oklahoma's is 93 in the nation. No wonder, they are preseason Top 5. It isn't just ESPN that hates us.
