pretty much missed the entire opening weekend, Verizon couldn't hear me now.......

Nice to say the Gamecock "Road Warriors" lose a game at home in February

Only 24 more days until their players get to see a state line.

SC better have a good start with that schedule every year

Florida has a 1-2 punch that may, could be the most dominant Friday/Saturday guys we've seen in a long time....Alex Faedo and Brady Singer, IMO.

Dominant Singer Lifts Gators

ANALYSIS Thomas Woodrey - February 25, 2017

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — No. 2 Florida clinched its series over No. 21 Miami with a 2-0 win Saturday, just one night after head coach Kevin O’Sullivan notched his 400th career win for the Gators. O’Sullivan, now in his 10th season as head coach, has made steady progress in evening the all-time series, which sat at 128-117-1 in Miami’s favor before the weekend. The Gators have won the series each of the last three years, posting an 8-2 mark thanks to a pair of wins when the two state rivals met in Omaha in 2015.
Heading into the series the tale of the tape showed a strong pitching matchup, and there has been no shortage of quality pitching. Gators ace Alex Faedo outshined Jesse Lepore of the Canes in a 1-0 victory Friday night, though both turned in impressive stat lines. Faedo exited just one out shy of a complete game shutout before turning the ball over to closer Frank Rubio, and would have finished the game himself if it weren’t for a fielding error that could have recorded the final out of the game. The Gators outhit the Canes 8-2, but both sides struggled to plate runs. The deciding factor in game one was a Jonathan India RBI single in the third that plated Dalton Guthrie for the game’s only run.
Fast-forward one night, and the scene looked all too familiar for the Canes. The Gators’ Brady Singer dazzled en route to 7.2 scoreless innings. Although the Canes outhit Florida 5-3, Singer notched a career-high 11 strikeouts in front of more than 6,000 fans that packed McKethan Stadium. The sophomore’s fastball was as high as 96, and held the Canes at bay for most of the night.
Offensively, a pair of solo homers helped make Singer’s performance stand up. Though Canes’ starter Jeb Bargfeldt turned in a quality start, the home run by DH Mark Kolozsvary in the third was all it took win the ballgame. In the sixth, India added insurance with a solo shot of his own, and Rubio came on to record the save for the second night in a row.
The two teams enter the series finale expecting a pitcher’s duel yet again. The Gators will start sophomore Jackson Kowar, who struck out 10 a week ago. The Canes will hope for a great performance from junior lefty Michael Mediavilla, the team’s top starter a year ago. Despite another tough loss, the Canes will hope to build off the tiny bit of offensive momentum they accumulated by outhitting the Gators on Saturday night. One thing is for sure, game three will not disappoint — as is always the case in this storied college baseball rivalry.

Report: Richmond baseball players suspended over fantasy football

Five Richmond baseball players who have been ruled ineligible by the NCAA were involved in fantasy football, leading to their suspensions to start the season, according to a Richmond Times-Dispatch report.

The university announced Feb. 17 that five student-athletes on the baseball team had committed secondary violations and would be ineligible for competition until the NCAA completes the reinstatement process.

The Times-Dispatch, citing multiple unnamed sources, later reported that the secondary violations were related to the players' participation in fantasy football.

The university, per athletic department policy, declined to offer further comment when reached by ESPN on Tuesday and has not identified the players involved.

The NCAA considers fantasy sports contests with an entry fee to be a form of sports wagering and therefore off-limits to student-athletes, regardless of sport.

ESPN has reached out to the NCAA and Atlantic-10 Conference for comment.

Fantasy sports are explicitly legal in Virginia and regulated by the state's Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

The Spiders are 3-4 on the season. Their Tuesday game against James Madison was rescheduled because of inclement weather.

this is absolutely insane IMO.....

Ridiculous that players are ineligible for playing fantasy football. Is this really what the NCAA focuses on

Does anyone have any ideas how the new AD will affect the baseball program. For example will he be willing to put money toward the program that it hasn't seen in the past? I'm also curious if he will want "his hires". I hope this season continues the way it has start. I want Serrano to be here for a long time and I think he has made changes in who he recruits. Now that he has figured it out he has a new boss and will he be looking to make a change to get his guy?

Ditto your questions and the hope that goes with them. Trying to stay on the positive side of the discussion, but honestly concerned.

Weber hire shows K-State in big trouble | FOX Sports

Everyone knows how important the results are for CDS and Co. this season. Many would agree, maybe cautiously until we see some SEC opponents, the pen looks much deeper and the order has enough punch to score. That said noone can predict just how good and if they can stay healthy. That's not doom and gloom, just cutting my usual tendency to enjoy the hype and excitement I have for this team. However, for the sake of this conversation let's assume a dream and 2017 is a special run that goes beyond the SEC Tourney. I'm not certain that's enough for an AD like this. If he is predisposed, like it seems, to having his own coaches, it could be tough for those of us who see what CDS, AT, and Slim plus TH Dir. of P Dev have coming. The only idea I have that is proven to work is money. If they win enough to generate some involvement from deep pockets that are pro CDS, he and we should be fine. Otherwise we will probably be discussing the AD's former coach picks...like Assoc Head Coach Mitch Gaspard in his first season at K State after termination from Alabama.

D1 apparently considers head-to-head (and a series sweep) while BA must not think that between the foul lines results matter all that much.

BA has been very "Carolina Centric" for a while as if you look they have always over inflated North Carolina especially in their polls.

ECU was swept in a hostile venue however in opening weekend. They'll cruise in that conference and let their fans down in regional or super regional play again. Just like every other team in North Carolina.

I've been thinking about this for quite some time and I hesitated to post about it in the Baseball forum during the search process for fear of the riff raff that might come down.

However, the hire has been made and it now seems to be fair to speculate.

I wanted the guy Alabama chose because of ASU's success in baseball.

It is obviously true that the success of the football program is the engine that makes success in the non revenue sports possible. Especially in the SEC.

However, it seems that at Tennessee, the focus is too football centric. We haven't won a conference championship in baseball in twenty years. We haven't made the NCAA tourney in over a decade.

In that span, the SEC has arguably become the best conference in Baseball. Almost every game is televised/streamed and other SEC schools are pouring millions into their baseball programs. We are at the bottom of the SEC in terms of facilities but don't take my word for it, take Todd Helton's.

My fear about hiring a "Tennessee" guy is that this mentality , this attitude, that "as long as football is good nothing else matters" would continue. This hire does not relieve that fear.

As it pertains to CDS...I think he needs to have his best year. He's been given a very fair shot here in terms of time, though maybe not all the necessary resources. Obviously he is well liked and everyone respects him as a man and a baseball coach. I think it's fair to say that most folks are rooting for him, but at some point there needs to be some success and in baseball success is making the NCAA Tournament. Off the field and in the classroom and in terms of relationships in recruiting as well as summer ball and Team USA, the program is in good shape and the same could not be said when he took over.

My strongly held opinion is a simple one...the best case scenario for Tennessee baseball is for Coach Serrano to succeed this season and take the decision off the table because if he does not...who knows what will happen.

So does anyone know how this works? TN TECH fans can watch live on phone, tablet, computer, or smart TV. Sure would be cool if we could get all the Basevol games like this for folks who can't get to LN. I bet there are more than a few... anybody?

the UT Athletic Department in the past have not elected to fund streaming of this nature for non-rev sports.
