The 2021 NFL Season Thread

People are throwing them under the bus for the TO. It makes sense. He was trying to make sure nothing dumb happened and get the right play in. Oakland was running no matter what. They just didn’t do their job defensively

Why did the Chargers take a timeout? Didn’t it seem like the Raiders were gonna run out the clock?

If anything it was a personnel adjustment, but what happened as a result (and what people are criticizing) is that doing so gives the other side the idea - in what’s essentially almost a prisoner’s dilemma - start to wonder “ok, if they’re willing to start taking a timeout now, does that mean they’re actually considering trying to stop the clock and get the ball back one last time to score?”.

And that in turn also makes any consideration said side had for going for the tie moot…because they also can’t trust the other team.

If they throw the ball, then yes I’d agree. They ran the ball. Again if that’s a -3 yard play, it doesn’t matter. Staley wouldn’t take the TO or they just punt and LAC would run the clock out

Can you imagine being the Chargers owner & GM right now? Knowing your HC just cost you a Playoff spot.

Well that was fun, hope the playoffs are as entertaining.

Theeey probably won’t be. We’ll likely get something similar to the norm. Handful of good games and teams that have played for and/or won Super Bowls somewhat recently playing again.

If they were hellbent on getting into field goal range, why didn’t why throw the ball? They were playing to win, they just weren’t going to do anything stupid that might jeopardize their season.
