When the dumpster fire involves coaches that have been punished with NCAA show cause penalties... there will not be a quick fix.

Pearl inherited three of the best guards that TN has ever had. Probably the best three at one time in the history of TN basketball. Experienced, great guards get teams into the NCAAT. Having 4 freshmen getting most of the minutes at the 1 and the 2 aren't likely to do much in a P-5 conference. But they sure overachieved versus Gonzaga, Wisconsin, UNC, KY, and Oregon.

Expecting TN to load up a roster with 4 and 5 stars by the 3rd coach in 3 years is just dumb. Barnes had to prove that he can coach. The players have looked as well coached in the last two years as any TN team in a long time. His 3rd team will most likely be better than Pearl's 6th team... even with fewer highly rated players.

How about just one 5* or even a Top 100 player? Let's face it, Barnes isn't going to get it done here if he doesn't start signing better players. It sure didn't take Avery Johnson long to sign 4 and 5 * players at Alabama

He was just fired and had to prove it was a mistake. Some in Texas are starting to express regret over the change.

He's not proved anything yet, except collapsing during the home stretch like he did his last few at Texas.

Big difference coming in after Anthony Grant than Donnie Tyndall.

And yet he still hasn't made the NCAAT in 2 seasons, he has 2 first round exits in the NIT. Plus we all know that if Barnes did sign those players and only made the NIT (and lost their first game) or like Howland and Pearl haven't even made the NIT yet, you'd be screaming about how Barnes isn't winning with good recruits so he isn't going to get it done.

-All those 4-5* players Avery Johnson has, and Rick Barnes beat him with Lew Evans. Both were left home come tournament time, so I'm not sure that's a great example.
