Special Briefing of Senate on North Korea

According to foxnews, Spicer clarified the event will take place on the WH campus, it is technically a Senate briefing and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is the one who convened it.

Sounds like somebody is getting ready for a big ole' fat war.

I hope Republicans realize that North Korea is not Iraq and that Kim is not Saddam.

Not sure they do though.

I haven't been around all 64 yrs, but something has worked other than a direct war...your definition of that?

Let's see, giving them fuel for their nuclear projects?

Didn't work.

Giving them food to stop their nuclear project?

Didn't work.

Sanctions?

Haven't worked.

Nothing short of a revolution and overthrow of the Kim family in NK will ever be enough.

I agree with you but that's gonna be a difficult task without getting a lot of young men and women stationed in South Korea killed

I wouldn't bet against the Chinese in this matter.

While you'll never admit it, I believe that's what caused the 180 on Trump's "currency manipulator" claim against China. They calm things down over there (even possibly instigating a regime change behind the scenes) in exchange for us not hurting them financially for the moment.

It's circumstantial evidence, certainly, but is plausible since it happened in such a short period of time after the summit between Trump and Xi.

As for what the Senate briefing is all about, I have no idea. Guess we'll find out on Wednesday. Is it being televised?

Oh I have no doubt this is 100% true. The one thing about DJT is he will change his tune on about anything that will benefit him. China is willing to help him so now they're no longer a "currency manipulator."

China, Japan and South Korea can't contain this militarily? Along with the economic hardships we've maintained?

This is a good thing. Glad to see Trump address this problem in a collective manner. At the end of the day, war is brewing. We need to nip this in the bud once and for all.

Well, in that case, you can go ahead and figure out what to do with the following:

1. 1-5 million dead Koreans
2. 1-5 trillion added almost immediately to the national debt
3. Stock market crash (which to be honest, if you're following the numbers, that's likely to happen anyhow)
4. No guarantee that North Korea's nuclear program is permanently shut down

I understand. But, here's the thing... we have a rogue country with nukes. The alternatives to a "limited" war on the Korean peninsula are far worse.

As I've said before - but have no answer - the question is what is KJU's end game? He's got nukes, he's working on ICBM's... but then what? What does he want?

If he's a madman, a limited war over there is far better than nukes detonating in Seattle. No effect on national debt, and the stock market would recover.

If he's just looking to keep his own power (likely), then he's posturing for a "deal" of some nature. Name that deal. That's the $64K question.

I don't think it will necessarily "benefit" him so to speak. It does benefit the Chinese, maybe benefits us since China started buying coal from us. Certainly would benefit us having China in our corner during any kind of confrontation with NK. They have far more sway over there than we ever thought of having.

I'm not sure if this counts as a "good deal" in the grand scheme of things, but removing the potential for a Chinese UN Security Council veto ain't gonna hurt us in the long run. I get the idea they are just as annoyed with NK as we are.

He would have no idea what to make of you, except asking who left the door open at the insane asylum.

Churchill would order the deportation of volprof back to Limpwrististan and then nuke the hell out of it.

A war would be bad news for China, too.

And yes, since Trump's flip flop China has granted he and Ivanka patent property rights. And Jared is selling a building to Chinese investors for megamoney.

There's lots of money to be made for Trump White House Enterprises in China.

I just can't believe Mattis is going along with all of this.

I thought he was one of the good guys. Maybe he still is; I have no clue at this point.

Thus far, however, he seems to just be lock-step.

The second part of the second line is probably the truest statement you have ever typed on VN.

So, you'd be ok with Trump continuing to call China a currency manipulator?
