Some Questions about our involvement in Libya

Quote from the article:

"Protecting the innocent and conducting combined operations are what we are designed to do, our forces are doing both as part of the U.S commitment to protect Libyan citizens."

Since when did it become America's responsibility to protect citizens of other nations?

Soros fingerprints on Libya bombing

Philanthropist billionaire George Soros is a primary
funder and key proponent of the global organization
that promotes the military doctrine used by the
Obama administration to justify the recent airstrikes
targeting the regime of Moammar Gadhafi in Libya.

The activist who founded and coined the name of
the doctrine, "Responsibility to Protect," sits on
several key organizations alongside Soros.

Also, the Soros-funded global group that promotes
Responsibility to Protect is closely tied to Samantha
Power, the National Security Council special adviser
to Obama on human rights.

Power has been a champion of the doctrine and is,
herself, deeply tied to the doctrine's founder.

According to reports, Power, who is married to
Obama regulatory czar Cass Sunstein, was
instrumental in convincing Obama to act against
Libya.

The Responsibility to Protect doctrine has been
described by its founders and proponents, including
Soros, as promoting global governance while allowing
the international community to penetrate a nation
state's borders under certain conditions.
---------------------------------

Board members of the group include former U.N.
Secretary-General Kofi Annan, former Ireland
President Mary Robinson and South African
activist Desmond Tutu. Robinson and Tutu have
recently made solidarity visits to the Hamas-
controlled Gaza Strip as members of a group
called The Elders, which includes former
President Jimmy Carter.

Annan once famously stated, "State sovereignty,
in its most basic sense, is being redefined – not
least by the forces of globalization and
international co-operation. States are ...
instruments at the service of their peoples
and not vice versa."

During his tenure as Australia's foreign minister,
Evans served as co-chair of the International
Commission on Intervention and State
Sovereignty, which invented the term
"responsibility to protect."

Doctrine founder Evans, meanwhile, is closely
tied to Obama aide Samantha Power, ....

Unreported Soros Event Aims to Remake Entire Global Economy

Two years ago, George Soros said he wanted to
reorganize the entire global economic system. In
two short weeks, he is going to start - and no
one seems to have noticed.

On April 8, a group he's funded with $50 million
is holding a major economic conference and
Soros's goal for such an event is to "establish
new international rules" and "reform the currency
system." It's all according to a plan laid out in
a Nov. 4, 2009, Soros op-ed calling for "a grand
bargain that rearranges the entire financial order."

The event is bringing together "more than 200
academic, business and government policy thought
leaders' to repeat the famed 1944 Bretton Woods
gathering that helped create the World Bank and
International Monetary Fund. Soros wants a
new 'multilateral system," or an economic system
where America isn't so dominant.

More than two-thirds of the slated speakers have
direct ties to Soros. The billionaire who thinks "the
main enemy of the open society, I believe, is no
longer the communist but the capitalist threat"
is taking no chances.

Thus far, this global gathering has generated less
publicity than a spelling bee.
-----------------------------------

The Soros empire is silent about this new Bretton
Woods conference because it isn't just designed
to change global economic rules. It also is designed
to put America in its place - part of a multilateral
world the way Soros wants it. He wrote that the
U.S. "could lead a cooperative effort to involve
both the developed and the developing world,
thereby reestablishing American leadership in
an acceptable form."

That's what this conference is all about -
changing the global economy and the United
States to make them "acceptable" to George
Soros.

Interesting read - very delicate situation.

The Turkish government wan't any too happy.

Following harsh criticism of the strikes, the
government asked parliament to approve the
dispatch of military forces, pledging a submarine,
four frigates and an auxiliary ship to a NATO
patrol mission to enforce a UN arms embargo
against Moamer Kadhafi's regime.

The Turkish parliament approved the move.

Previously Italy had threatened to end the
use of Italian arifields if NATO didn't take over.

Turkey dusted off its sub.?

I didn't even know it had a sub.

Without any research, I'd guess it's left over from WWII.

Pundit Press: Obama in February: The US Must Give Libya's Military More Money

In February, (2011,) in the midst of a revolution
in Egypt and an uprising in Tunisia, the President
actually asked the United States Congress to
provide Dictator Maummar Gaddafi with an a
dditional $1.7 million in funds for his military.

Question; why is it 'revolution' in Egypt, 'uprising'
in Tunisia and 'rebelion' in Libya??

Should I contact John Freaking Kerry to explain
these subtle nuances??

Way too good not to pass on - Obama now has launced more cruise missiles than all other Nobel Prize winners combined.

Here is a terrific, detailed read on Libya etc.

Decoding Libya - National Review Online

some excerpts;

For nearly 20 years, we’ve willfully blinded ourselves to the Rosetta Stone that decodes our enemy’s war doctrine. But the jihad (or shall we call it “kinetic Islam”?) is catalyzed not by al-Qaeda but by sharia — by Muslim law.
------------------------

First, as a constitutional matter, Congress has neither declared war nor otherwise authorized combat operations. When there has been no attack on the United States, no imminent prospect of attack against us, and no vital American interest implicated, our system obliges the president to have approval from the people’s representatives before entangling the people in a foreign conflict.
------------------------------

Fourth, and perhaps most significant, is the reason why war with Libya is dubious: We understand neither whom we are fighting for nor the consequences of invading a Muslim country. To apprehend these things requires a rudimentary grasp of sharia. You don’t need a doctorate in Islamic jurisprudence. As I contend in The Grand Jihad, the basics will more than suffice. The problem is that, since the World Trade Center was first bombed in 1993, the government has been telling us that Islam has nothing to do with the jihadist campaign against us, so we have studiously avoided informing ourselves about Islam and its law.
-------------------------------

What I have described here is a mainstream interpretation of sharia, not some purportedly twisted al-Qaeda construction. It is the Islam of hundreds of millions of Muslims. The fact that most of these Muslims disagree with al-Qaeda’s strategy of attacking the West in the West (however much they may applaud it post facto) is beside the point.
-----------------------------

Qaddafi’s opposition is not driven by al-Qaeda. It is driven by sharia. Various factions want Qaddafi out so that they can install sharia and build a real Islamic state — one that is virulently anti-Israeli, anti-Western, and anti-American, a mirror image of what the Muslim Brotherhood is now poised to sculpt in Egypt. For now, Islamists have encouraged military Western help because they lack the resources needed to oust Qaddafi themselves — just as Bosnian Muslims could not defeat the Serbs, Iraqi Muslims could not defeat Saddam Hussein, and Afghan Muslims could not defeat the Soviet Union without American help. But as we’ve seen time and again, the embrace of American support never translates into an embrace of Americans.

The Muslims of the Middle East will gladly use us, but they will turn on us the second our temporarily useful assistance becomes an intolerable transgression against sharia.
-------------------------------

We’ve seen this show before. The rebels are not rebels — they are the Libyan mujahideen. Like the Afghan mujahideen, including those that became al-Qaeda and the Taliban, the Libyan mujahideen comprise different groups. What overwhelmingly unites them, besides opposition to Qaddafi, is sharia. The Libyan mujahideen will exploit us but never befriend us. If they succeed, so be it. But we have no vital interest in orchestrating that success, even if it would mean a thug like Qaddafi finally gets his just deserts. If we empower them, we will eventually rue the day.

Pajamas Media Libyan Rebel Commander: ‘Cut Gaddafi?s Throat, Then Establish an Islamic State’

While American intelligence experts search for
“flickers” of jihadist involvement in the
Libyan rebellion, a French reporter on a brief
visit to eastern Libya had no problem finding
numerous jihadists on the front.
-----------------------------------

Further to the east in Darnah, one of the
strongholds of the rebellion, Fouchet met a
certain Sheikh Choukri Al-Hasy, the director
of the town’s principal mosque: the al-Sahaba
mosque.

As previously reported on PJM, according to
captured al-Qaeda personnel records, Darnah
furnished more foreign fighters to al-Qaeda in
Iraq than any other foreign city or town —
this despite the fact that the town’s total
population is only 80,000.

According to Fouchet’s account, the mosque
contains a mausoleum where some 70 companions
of the prophet Mohammed are reputedly buried.

Seventeen rebel fighters are now buried nearby.
“Those who followed the prophet Mohammed were
the first jihadists,” Al-Hasy explained. “So, it’s
normal that we are burying our martyrs next to
them….”

Many of these kinetic military actors are
graduates of our rehab program in Guantanamo.
Our intelligence community is on the case. CIA
Director Leon Panetta explained he was getting
his information about the situation in Egypt from
the media. Deputy National Security Adviser John
Brennan has excused Director of National Intelligence
James Clapper’s cluelessness by saying, “Jim Clapper
is not sitting in front of the TV 24 hours a day.”

The Director of National Intelligence has assured
us that the Muslim Brotherhood is a “largely secular”
organization. He is backed up in the by that other
foreign policy expert, Jimmy Carter who said, “I think
that the Muslim Brotherhood is not anything to be
afraid of.”

The president has informed us that, “The people
that we’ve met with have been fully vetted.”

Israpundit Blog Archive Report–Obama quietly appoints Muslim Brotherhood to key posts

“Events which are currently unfolding in the Middle
East are a consequence of the behind-the-scenes
work of Islamic advocates within the Administration.”
------------------------------

An ex-CIA agent and counter-intelligence expert
has revealed in a special report that Barack Obama
has quietly appointed members of the Muslim
Brotherhood to key posts within the Administration.

Dr. Clare Lopez, professor at the Centre for
Counterintelligence and Security Studies, wrote
a policy paper in December of 2009 which details
the systematic appointment of Sharia-friendly
advocates within the State Department and
other government agencies.

For example, the Tehran-born Dr. Vali Nasr was
appointed to co-direct Obama foreign policy toward
Afghanistan and Pakistan. Former Saudi Arabian
supplicant Charles Freeman was appointed by Obama
to chair the Administration’s National Intelligence
Council, but withdrew his name when it was revealed
he issued a 2-page screed in which he postulated a
conspiracy theory claiming he had been ‘victimized’
by American supporters of Israel.

In addition, John Limbert was appointed to direct U.S.
policy toward the Islamist regime in Iran. Limbert,
who was taken hostage during the Iranian upheaval
of the late 70s-early 80s, is an Iranian sympathizer
who advocates negotiation with one of the most
brutal dictatorships in the world.
-------------------------------------

The reports expose a consortium of Leftwing
organizations, Islamic groups, labor unions, and
Obama-friendly corporations which would organize
and fund a ‘youth movement’ in certain areas
around the Middle East which would then take
to the streets in protest against current
governments.

Anyone who doesn't recognize Barack Hussein
Obama for exactly what he is fits the description
of the old profile, "too stupid to pour piss out of
a boot, even if the directions were written on the
bottom of the heel."

Ghadfi is reportedly stepping down. Breaking news. We will see. Details are slim
Posted via VolNation Mobile

I'm not calling you a liar (zing), but that is something that I will have to see to believe. Hope it's true. Hope the replacement regime doesn't want to cut off heads.

Hmm, haven't seen anything about him explicitly stepping down, myself. Just says that he has agreed to a "peace roadmap" presented by other African leaders and the UN. I imagine there could be some government restructuring, but not necessarily a step-down? Dunno.

Watch Obama get lucky and walk away from his BS non-plan all squeaky clean. Lucky is better than good, sometimes I guess.

Smart move. If they would have agreed, they'd have been murdered in their beds later. In my opinion, anyway.

Review & Outlook: Obama's Turn Against Israel - WSJ.com

In recent weeks, the Obama Administration has
endorsed "healthy relations" between Iran and
Syria, mildly rebuked Syrian President Bashar
Assad for accusing the U.S. of "colonialism,"
and publicly apologized to Moammar
Gadhafi for treating him with less than
appropriate deference after the Libyan
called for "a jihad" against Switzerland.

When it comes to Israel, however, the Administration
has no trouble rising to a high pitch of public
indignation.

Oh wait, what difference????
