Recruiting Forum: Football Talk VIII

This is just a thought and it may have been discussed before, but we didn't have these false start penalties with Worley. It makes me think that there is something in Dobbs' cadence that is throwing the line off. No excuse to not have corrected that by now, but I really think that is the cause.

Yeah, there is...Dobbs runs the offense at a significantly faster pace than Justin ever did. This is not an exaggeration. Watch him check out the defensive formation, look sideline for the call, tell the OL what the call is, then stand back and motion for the snap. Unless he has to go to the sideline to double-check the call, it only takes him about 5 seconds or so. That is, until Stone, who's apparently out for coffee and a sandwich on most plays, takes another 3 or 4 seconds to get off the snap.

The problem is that our offense, specifically the line, was designed by Chaney to move about as fast as pond water, and it puts Josh in a tough situation. He's doing what he's told to as far as running the HUNH, but the OL is simply not moving on the same wavelength as he is. They're big fellows and they simply aren't built for the kind of quick-moving zone blocking schemes this offense requires. This, IMO, is where Justin's experience gives him an edge JD just doesn't have yet, in that he understands they're going to be slower and adjusts for it. When the QB and OL are on the same frequency as far as the speed of the game goes, it allows the offense to get into the kind of rhythm that we just haven't seen with Josh under center yet.

This isn't to say we won't see said rhythm in the future, hopefully, since Josh is perfectly capable of running the offense at a speed which will eliminate the false starts that have been happening.

From what I can tell dobbs hasn't checked with the sideline since early in the mizzu game. IMO that's because of all the false starts
