Well... we've got better roster talent as a whole than:

West Virginia
UTEP
Charlotte
Missouri
East TN St
Kentucky
Vanderbilt

but... Missouri and WV have great QBs, which is a problem... I can't explain for the life of me why we lose to Florida every year (especially the past two) but yea... Florida and South Carolina are always close games and currently, we're on par with them talent-wise...

I think we all agree Alabama, Georgia, and Auburn will be losses without significant injuries or crazy things happening...

So... assuming we were to take care of business against teams we are better than... and we pull out the Florida and USCjr games... that's 9 wins... that's not an absolutely absurd train of thought...

... I think 8 wins is a realistic ceiling and I'd be ecstatic with that... I'd be good with 7... 6 is unacceptable for the program in general and Vegas has us as 5.5 last I checked...

I'm not running to the casino to put my mortgage on a new staff... but theoretically, I'd have no problem putting money on 6+
Yep. That's fair. 6 or 7 wins is probably about right, all things considered.

I'm not so sure that Auburn is an automatic loss. They should be, but they've been so fluky with Gus there. They usually crap the bed at least once a season. I'm hoping it's against the Vols this year.

We get them coming off our bye week and we are their 7th game in a row. Could work out nicely for an upset.

You mean we didn't have 4-8 roster last fall but rather a 4-8 coaching staff? Been saying that awhile now. This talk of 5-7 or 6-6 at best is hilarious. 2018 Vols are that team that's going to "shock" all the talking heads when we win 9+ this fall.

I love your posts ron and what you bring. And you're one of my favorite posters. But lets not act like you weren't sunshine pumping last season as well while the previous staff was still here.

Nothing's automatic... we can could beat Bama or Georgia too... but they have better roster talent and they've had the same systems in place for a few years... soooo... those three are a stretch, yes

He's sunshine pumped for years. It's just what he does. Shared plenty of Butch Jones dancing towards a national championship sign type stuff, we were going to get Gruden, and if you were doubtful he basically questioned your fandom and called you a negavol, gonna win 9+ this year, etc. I'm sure he was all aboard the Dooley mobile as well.

Staff/scheme continuity has to count for something too, IMO. Even witha great coaching staff, year one can be filled with a lot of bumps in the road sometimes.

Luckily, UF is in the same boat as us in that regard and Mizzou is changing over to Dooley's wikipedia offense. Having both of those games are in Neyland at the end of a 3 week stretchof home games.

Maybe he's a man that wants to build his own success and keep it.

He's an Alabama guy at heart though. Don't care what anyone says. If I'm the head football coach at Alabama, and Tennessee comes a calling, I'm gone. Especially if I grew up a Tennessee fan and actually played for Tennessee.

Can you believe the nerve of the guy. A fan of a team rooting for and supporting the team he is a fan of. That's why I have him on ignore.

I was early on, everyone was. But then UGA happened and the staff quit on the kids. Season fell apart after that beatdown. The talent was there to win the east the last few years.

In theory you are right. But as long as Saban is at Bama, it's an automatic loss. Last year they could have scored 70 on us with ease.

Auburn and Georgia are extremely close to automatic losses. We just don't have the talent.

Butch almost beat him once.

There's a complete difference in supporting your team and full on sunshine pumping. Just pointing out Ron saying him saying this for a while isn't correct. He even went on to say in his reply to me that it was after the Georgia game last season when he realized it.

Obviously, I'm not guaranteeing that we're going to go in there and blow them out or anything. I'm just saying that everyone seems to say those 3 are unwinnable.

As Ron pointed out, the schedule works out well for the Auburn game. As does their propensity to play down to weaker opponents.

UA and UGA are probably going to be rough weeks for us this year. And, Auburn should be as well on paper. I really think we may have a chance there if everything works out for us, though. Call it 70/30 instead of 90/10.
