Which coach’s last downward spiral did the most damage to the UT program. Right now feels like the worst we’ve ever been in, but I’d like to know if that’s a common sentiment.

We’ve been a dumpster fire for a while now. But this feels like rock bottom

Problem is that the coaches themselves didn’t do anything to damage the reputation of the program except for being bad coaches. And it’s not like they took the job and decided to be bad. They were bad hires from the get go. And that’s the fault of the AD. But before this successive line of bad hires, what set this chain in motion was Hamilton giving Kiffin a contract he could so easily walk away from. Fulmer’s time had expired, and Kiffin wasn’t a bad hire, but giving him an opportunity to walk away so easily and leaving Tennessee at risk like that was malpractice by Mike Hamilton. If there’s one person to blame for our decade plus of problems it’s him. And the people who continue to hire incompetent ADs

I mean cornbread’s teams suck and he’s about to be fired, presumably, for cause. So the gump and Fulmer took an already violate situation and made it worse.

Pruitt makes Dooley look good instate. High school coaches never see him or his staff.

Also Hamilton gave Fulmer too much of a leash, steering the program into the mud

Complete opposite... Hamilton took over a Ferrari and he drove it straight into the ditch. Refused to give Fulmer adequate financial support in an attempt to sabotage him. Then his golden boy bailed after 1yr.. Mike Hamilton holds the biggest bag in this mess.

I'm gonna have to roll with Kiffin. I've always believed and still do to this very day that he was Tennessee's ace hire. He left after his one and only but successful first season. After he quit we went to hiring the slums haha. If Pruitt gets fired I wouldn't mind Billy Napier or Pat Fitzgerald. Either of those guys would at least bring stability and consistency.

True. The irony of it all is that Hamilton absolutely did what we haven’t had an ad capable of yet. He had the kahunas to sack fulmer amd he went out amd got the young exciting, innovative offensive minded coach we wanted/needed to compete with urban and meyer. But he made the massive flaw of not having a huge buyout should he leave for another job. It took an unbelievable chain of events for them to even get to kiffin. But of course us being Tennessee...it happened. It was a learning experiences for all ads. Nobody would make that mistake. The second mistake was we should’ve went the interim route and not rushed to hire kiffin’s replacement. Anyway, after hamilton the ads were all dumpster fires. I hated to idea if hart to begin with. I know this Lilly had little impact on his lack of talent for the job but he was an absolute die hard bammer that was just absolutely clueless when it came to coaches. Then Currie was more of the same. Just a total dweeb who’s finger could t have been farther away from the pulse of the fan base...or college football in general really. And now after all those ads that never should’ve gotten the job we now have who will go down as unquestionably the worst of the all. Sucks to be a vol fan.

My first thought, based on the poll was Kiffin. Only bc had he not left, he would still be here. His leaving set us up for the turmoil we endure now. After reading your response, my thinking has changed. Well said!

The problem was firing Fulmer to start with. Worst mistake in Tennessee history, the gift that keeps on giving.
