2 teams had at it last night. Both of them came in with legit defenses that shut down other teams all season. The major difference was supposedly on offense. One had the aged Sheriff, supposedly hobbling into his last rodeo while the other had the young Superman, supposedly the new and improved version of the Sheriff. Yet at games end, we see that the Sheriff somehow found a way to get 24 points on the board against a nasty Panther defense while Superman got limited to 10 by an equally nasty defense. Not to mention, who had a better QB rating?
What I dont understand is how Peyton doesnt get some serious credit for that? Sure, they had a tough time closing the door in the end zone but they DID do so. Peyton led drives that got scores on the board 4x (not including a nail in the coffin 2 point conversion). If Peyton had not done so, the story line today would be that the Panthers had an even nastier D than the Broncos. Besides that one interception there were few unforced errors on Peyton's part. Dont tell me that Kubiak should get all the credit for consistently beating the Panther's nasty defense - did you see the pass coverage they had? it was awesome.
I take nothing away from the Bronco D or the offensive coaches but it saddens me that everyone is acting like the Bronco D was so dominant that you could have plugged any old (young) QB in there and won against the Panther defense - that Denver won the SB (in part at least) NOT because Peyton was under center but in spite of it. Maybe I am just a Peyton homer but I just dont see it that way.
