Knoxville Hotel Advice

It is a little far out, we stay at the Holiday Inn Express (next to Bass Pro Shop). Shuttle bus to the game for $20. You get there hour before the game and leaves half hour after the game ends. Not the experience we get when we stay at the Marriott, but with a national champion contender those days are over for me and I am fine with that.

Thank you for the info on the shuttle. I was thinking about staying there for some home games

If Uber gets shut down they are just asking a lot of people to drink and drive. Yes yes, always have a DD but frankly that's not always the case and uber is the next best option that's most frequently used.

This is the football forum rather than politics, but Uber, Lyft, and Airbnb are threats to keeping the government worker's jobs intact. Social media is far more efficient at controlling bad participants than government regulators are. Now... back to football.

There must be around 1,000 rooms recently added in four new hotels around the Papermill exit plus several hundred more in the remodeled Red Roof and the other hotel (Travelodge?) between the smoke shop and the Waffle House. Surely some of those rooms open up due to cancellations in the next few weeks.

We always stay at Strawberry Plains (LaQuinta or Best Western). About 10 miles east of Knoxville but very little traffic going that way after game. Much more reasonably priced being a little out of town.

We did this also except paid 10 bucks for a bus ride to the game.

We looked at several of the hotel comparing and booking websites comparing and called many that were a little closer or that we'd each stayed in previously and if hotel availability is any indicator I think scalper tickets will be sky high. I know the game is sold out but I now expect the tailgates and bars to be absolutely over flowing.

Either way we got the Econo Logde 3.8 out of 5 and above average rating on the sites and isn't too far from everything.

Last question mid twenty non alum 5-10 of us, what's the one bar or club to hit Friday night?

Strawberry Plains or Merchants or Lovell. Puleo's if SP. Actually it's a restaurant. Bars and clubs are mainly on the opposite (west) end of town or downtown/Old City or university area. Probably Market Square downtown or the Old City just NE of downtown.

Agree on checking out motels in Alcoa. < 15 mi/20 min. to Neyland. Straight shot in, no traffic lights 'till you get off at Neyland Dr. exit. A couple near the airport, couple more a little further south at Hall Rd./129.

Just wear your seatbelt while driving on Alcoa Highway. My buddies and I always stay with a college friend each year when we come to town from all over for a game...every single year one of our buddies gets pulled for a seatbelt infraction.

You'd think they'd learn.

Campus will be a madhouse that day. The time I plan on getting over there keeps getting earlier and earlier. However you plan on getting down there, consider going earlier than you expected.

As far as Friday night goes, just go downtown to Market Square or the Old City. The places on Market Square are a little more laid back, the Old City has some more of the typical club type places (and a few calmer places as well).

As someone who lives off of merchants drive and works downtown I can say this is a good option if they are available still and cheap.

Yup. I am at the Clarion this year. Last year I stayed at the hotel that shares a parking lot with Hooters. Late night wings on Friday and Saturday is never good on the body though.
