Here is my problem with Gruden

A sitting coach that has won an national championship in the last 5-10 years is the closest thing to a sure thing. I doubt any of them could be hired. There are two that are currently unemployed in chizik and miles but there are reasons they are unemployed.

My problem with Gruden is he doesn't love us as much as we love him.

Just an off the wall thought...what a better way to keep recruits interested by entertaining the idea that Gruden will be Tenn.'s coach. IF there was a meetng who knows what was discussed. Currie may be smarter than alot on here think and both parties have let all this play out.

He’s just not that good of a coach.

- His career winning percentage is .540
- Only made the playoffs 5 out of 11 years
- After winning his SB, he went on to have losing seasons in 3 of the next 4 years
- He won his SB with Dungys players and really only won because the opposing QB threw 2pic 6s

Don’t understand the fascination to be honest. He has also said if he had to coach on the college level he would have the school in NCAA trouble within 10 min because he would not be able to abide by the rules.

This is the guy you’re hanging your hopes on? Really?

Then all the more reason not to hire him if he really has an opportunity to bolt for the pros.

Tampa Bay is 45-83 since Gruden left.

We should take a poll to see how many of the anti-Grudens were all in head over heels on bUTch just a short time ago (orange tie, dream job, elite recruiter, wants to be here -- remember all of that horse pucky?).

FACT is that Gruden and every coach considering coming to the hill will consider that they start behind the 8 ball every year starting 0-1 simply because we have to play Bama every year and that alone will turn off many coaches we might want.

Playing Bama also gives all other SEC East coaches a 1 game instant advantage over UT and makes it easier for them to Win the SEC East.
Any coach who approaches things from that 🐔 attitude needs to be stricken off the list immediately.

You don't approach any game expecting to get beat. And even if you do lose to Bama, if you win your other crossover game and beat everyone else in the East, you're STILL winning the East. But then you'd still better not have that kind of losing attitude where Bama is concerned, because guess who will probably be waiting for you in the SECCG?

Bama is a fact of life in the SEC, at least for as long as Saban is there. But Spurrier was a fact of life in the '90's, and UT still got past him for a national title.

You have to approach this job with the attitude that you are going to meet the competition and build a team that can beat them. Anyone who doesn't have that attitude needs to go coach in the Sun Belt, not in Knoxville.

ABSOLUTELY...!!!
That attitude might be acceptable if you're coaching at MTSU (Middle Tennessee State) and have the Vols or Bama on your schedule, but THE University of Tennessee makes the kind of commitment to the Football program to justify much higher expectations and CERTAINLY not "starting the season 0-1".

If Gruden has any feelings for Tennessee, its past time he spoke up and put this half-baked delusion out of its misery so we can move on.
