Gruden was already signed & ready to come, as some of these other boosters had already gotten his agreement, but Haslam nixed the hire because Gruden wanted total control of the program like Saban has at Bama & Meyer at OSU, & Haslam was determined not to let go of his control of everything.

I'll play along...if this is true then what power/control would Haslam not be willing to give up? I mean this isn't the NFL where some coaches want control over personnel and the draft.

There's no GM in college football. The personnel is totally controlled by recruiting. So what control would a HC want that Haslam has and doesn't want to give up?
