Ftr, I have been to a lot of places around the world.

Some vacations are for culture, others are not.

All inclusives are perfectly fit for the majority of Americans... similar to some of the ways cruise lines are set up.

Just feed us and liquor us up... to Hell with learning a culture or meeting different people while you are there.

I may do 2 more cruises in my life (Australia and SE Asia), but even with those, I plan on staying a few days in the port cities before and after the cruises.

But if I can avoid it, I would never want to do an all inclusive.

I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to the DR. I visited a friend in the Peace Corps, so we were able to see a good bit of the country. The southern part is much more beautiful. If you get a chance, there's a place called Juan Dolio in the Southeast. Beautiful community of French ex-pats east of Santo Domingo. There are all inclusives about a mile down the road.

Love some Presidente and Brugal.

the Hard Rock in Punta Cana. The resort is huge. Very nice & modern. Obviously decorated with cool music memorabilia & photos. I was there for First rounds of NCAA tournament. Won some money on BB games & roulette. I cant speak about the golf course though but I know they have one on site.

My sister recently went with her friend and stayed at an all-inclusive resort in Punta Cana. She said while the beaches were beautiful and the stay was nice there wasn't much more she could do there that she couldn't do at a nice spot in Florida and still have her own car to drive. There are also vaccines you might need before traveling there so you should contact your GP in advance.

I have gone to Punta Cana 3 times, (2x at the Hard Rock & 1x at The Excellence). I have never gotten any vaccines or got sick. Now I did take indigestion medicine as a much needed precaution. There is plenty to do. We went zip lining & rode ATV's thru the countryside. Both were a blast. That is what traveling is all about. Not to mention you can eat/drink all day long at no additional cost.
