Bowl Bound and Set 2 SEC records no one wants too set!

Either way, trying to be positive. Some on Volnation are some sad souls.

I'm positive as well. Not sure how being curious if something posted is factual makes someone sad. But if it makes you feel better to think that way, go with it.

Ha! Now I've gone in defense mode. I'll bow out peacefully. GBO!

Its all good dude. Volnation is very fickle. Every fan base has good and bad fans. I will take any healthy, friendly debate from someone like yourself any day over someone who just live in misery because it enjoys company.

I am very calculated when it comes to posting what I would consider facts. With that being said, I need to produce something to substantiate my thread title.

I did not say its a moot point. I said that in my opinion its a moot point. I think I'm still entitled to that.

Sorry if I misunderstood, but your first sentence said "Whether #2 is a record or not IMO is a moot point". Of course you're entitled to your opinion, as is everyone on here. Just thought that if the OP can't substantiate his claim with evidence that proves it factually correct, then it's an invalid point. Jmo.

I really wasn't trying to be difficult. I just take in as much Vol info as I can and I honestly never heard that was an SEC first. I had heard we were the only team to do it from last year. Either way it's a huge handicap to start the season with. Pretty amazing how different each side of the ball turned out. The d line showed flashes of brilliance while the o line....not so much. But I agree that making a bowl was a big deal with the deck stacked that way.

I would assume Marshall had to replace both their lines, ya know, what with the plane crash and all

Shallow and classless. Similar to the Vandie fans calling injured UT players Chuckie Mullins last name.

Just disrespectful, childish and irresponsible.

OP got caught in a lie. I asked you to cite your sources and you responded with several articles in regards to our youth on the line, none of which saying our situation is a record, which is what you claimed.

Nowhere in any of those articles does it say that's a record. It says they are the only FBS team to replace all their starters from the previous year. Nothing about it never happening before .
The article may not state it's a record, but; by your own comment (which doesn't make sense) it implies it.
Only: alone in a class or category (To me that means it hasn't happened before, contrary to what you state.)
Record: of, relating to, or being one that is extraordinary among or surpasses others of its kind (Since Tn. is the only team to replace all their starters, then it is a record) IMHO

I'm pretty sure its a school record for the most freshman starters…though I could be wrong.

^THIS!

Very sorry to VN I misspoke! This is what I remember being said/read somewhere! Mods please correct the title of the thread!

Still one heck of an accomplishment!

Actually you should try reading it again. The articles state they were the only team that had to replace them from the previous year. Meaning 2013. Not the first in history.

Not defending any here or calling anyone out, but come on guys, I think we all know the intent of the OP was to call to attention two accomplishments that are valid and worthy of recognition whether they are actually "records" or not.

For all I care University of "X" can start 25 freshman next year and replace their entire defense. It doesn't diminish what the Vols did this year, and I am still proud of them.

Very, very excited about what Tennessee has accomplished this year! Been a long time since the pain we all felt watching Tennessee lose to North Carolina in a very controversial game ending fashion.

I will be going to any bowl they get invited too and Ill be sporting my newly acquired Tennessee gear my wife will be getting me for Christmas (FYI I ordered all of it myself haha!)

To all the negative fans I am not going to bash because your entitled to your own opinion. I know the game last night seemed tough because we didnt blowout Candy after they were talking all week including their coach. But we did, somehow, fight through the adversity and Josh Dobbs and Pig Howard (only offensive playmakers still healthy) we able to put enough points on the board to help the defense and win the game. Not to mention Cam Suttons awesome return (havent seen that since Patterson) for a TD.

And try for a second to think about the bottom line. Tennessee set two records no one wants to claim and they did it in the most powerful conference in 'Merica:

1. Most true freshman to EVER enter the field of play with 23.

AND

2. Replaced both Offensive and Defensive lines with new starters.

Both are HUGE, but you always hear about football being a line of scrimmage game and especially hear its a different breed in the SEC being a cut above in that aspect of the game. The fUTure is bright and I am so glad this team gets the extra month of football. Go vols!

This team has been held together with baling wire, chewing gum and paper clips all season. First half of the season with all defrnse and no offence. Then we found offence and lost the defense. The playcalling has been sketchy at best and some "clutch" players haven't shown up and others who were lesser knowns became stars. Injuries out the ying yang and now rape charges. Yet despite it all, we are going to a bowl game. Unreal.

Really? Caught in a LIE???

Maybe you dont know the difference but me misspeaking on something like this is not me trying to lie. Who are you the integrity police?

Come on dude.....my ignorance for misspeaking is not malicious. Its exactly that.....IGNORANCE!

BTW, if you read a few replies above, someone mentioned the first time in school history and THIS is what I know to be true that I heard or read and that is a FACT.

Very happy these vols are going bowling!

I have to hand it to the VOLS. Since the SC game they lost their best defensive player and team leader(AJ), and in the beginning of the Vandy game they lose their best(Perhaps) offensive player (Hurd), but they still managed to win enough to go bowling. Not many teams could do that......

Yea I cant track it down. Maybe a little more time and ill see what I can pull up. I will say for a fact I have either heard it during a game or read it. Until I come up with something substantial Ill stand to be corrected.

But while tracking it down I did run into this article and I think its pretty cool how spot on this guy was. GO VOLS!

College Football Countdown | No. 68: Tennessee

That guy was so on point. :good!:

"The basic point: Don't expect any miracles. Do expect, however, a substantial degree of improvement, a stronger performance against all competition, a stiff sense of purpose and huge strides during the course of the season. It's a young team, but the potential is off the charts. Given what Tennessee has in hand and coming in next year's class, all Jones needs to do is find a quarterback. The skill players are there. The line will only get better. The defense will improve as the youngsters gain a stronger comfort level in the system. The back seven, for example, is brimming with all-league potential. If UT can find its quarterback – and maybe it's Dobbs – the Volunteers are one year away from competing for the SEC East Division. For 2014, the Volunteers should be happy with a six-win return to the postseason."

I don't want to be punchable face guy, but we didn't set any freshman rushing records. At least not that I know of. Jamal Lewis ran for 1,300 yards as a freshman in 97. Again, don't take it as negativity. I'm as excited about the future as anyone. But I also appreciate history. Ha!
