Advanced Metrics Nonsense

So I'm getting carried away with my new stats, and I can't believe the career Stockton had. So consistently elite. Where he ranked among PGs in per minute productivity, and total productivity:

'86 - #3, and #6
'87 - #2, and #4
'88 - #1, and #1
'89 - #2, and #1
'90 - #2, and #2
'91 - #3, and #2
'92 - #1, and #1
'93 - #1, and #1
'94 - #1, and #1
'94 - #1, and #1
'96 - #1, and #1
'97 - #1, and #1
'98 - #1, and #7
'99 - #3, and #3
'00 - #1, and #2
'01 - #1, and #1
'02 - #1, and #2
'03 - #2, and #3
'04 - Retired

Just found this out, but Rodman's first 2 seasons he scored 21 points per 48 minutes, which is league average for forwards. Not only that, but he was well above average shooting efficiency.

It's like he gave up on a traditional offensive role to become a defensive and rebounding specialist. I think it would be a bad decision for most players with that kind of stat line to choose that route, but it made him into arguably the best PF of the modern era.

Crazy.

Not sure but I think he had a season in Detroit where he was taking a lot of 3s a game and making them at a high clip.

Charles, Charles, Charles....

"First of all I've always believed analytics was crap,"

"Just because you've got good stats doesn't mean you're a good team defensively," Barkley said. "They're not a good defensive team. They gave up 118 points. No good team gives up 118 points."

1 - analytics say you are in the conversation for best player of the modern era...don't fight it.
2 - it's 1 damn game and the Suns scored 118 points because the pace was fast (87 FGAs and 30 FTAs), you know? That's how come the Rockets scored 127.
3 - Rockets are #9 in eFG% surrendered, and #3 in turnovers forced and the 2 starting big men have missed a combined 62 games.

The irony is that Barkley uses a misinterpreted stat (opponents points scored) from one game to support his point that stats don't work in assessing a team...

He's right about Morey though. The quote at the end of the article is absolutely on point.

Barkley is gonna say whatever he wants to say regardless its factual content. He's paid to be outrageously outspoken

Who cares why he makes the decisions he makes, if he makes good decisions? For some reason Barkley doesn't like this team, but they are 3rd in an incredibly competitive western conference and 2 of their starters have missed a lot of the season.

So Morey has built a great team. Why does it matter that he is "....people with a background in analytics. But they're out evaluating players and making decisions."

Barkley is pulling a Joe Morgan. They are threatened by "experts" with different backgrounds than them. Barkley's comment about not knowing who Morey if he "walked in the room" is pure NBA elitist bull-crap. If he were a legend like Michael Jordan, he would know him, and respect him, even when he puts out losers. It's not about results, it's about pedigree.

This criticism came after a short-handed, 9-point road victory against a good opponent, for crying out loud.

I love Barkley. Favorite player and NBA personality of all time, but when you talk as much as he does, you're gonna look stupid sometimes, and reveal your hand.
