2017 feels a lot like 1998

I can promise you there was not ONE game in 98 I thought Tennessee would lose. No one was complaining about the lack of player development, and no one was wanting to run Phil out of town.

Tennessee also did not lose to Fla and then look horrid vs Huston.

NO this does not remotely look, feel, seem, or is 1998.

Huge difference between rejoicing and demanding responsibility.Apparently neither you nor CBJ have learned the difference.

How is calling out other fans "demanding responsibility"? That's idiotic and has zero to do with the coach you needlessly added to your post

No, continuing to call out and bash those who believe UT will win is rejoicing. You can use reveling if you wish but there are those who are definitely enjoying the misery of others.

Clueless. Bash those that state the obvious and insist they are doing something more than holding a standard of accountability.

What level of accountability should fans be held to? Do those who hope and believe UT is going to win deserve the constant callouts and attacks simply for being fans? And I'm the clueless one? Good grief this place is getting absolutely in the crapper

Stating the obvious is a far cry from calling out fans, but asking for others to come to terms with reality is nothing short of raising the bar.

How is pointing out that the 2017 season is not like the 1998 season, "rejoicing in the failures of UT football"?

Because it was dug out and bumped with the intent of ridiculing a poster who had good feelings before the season

The whole point of this thread was the situation - losing your starting QB and having to replace them with a lot of unknowns - but a ton of talent returning. Obviously it doesn't feel much like it after the UF loss. However, you could draw parallels to the GT game and the Syracuse game - nail biter until the end.

And for JoAllan who said he never thought we would lose a game, he was obviously not into that season or paying attention. I guess he forgot about how we were going to lose the Arkansas game until Stoerner put the ball on the ground.

Right. Like d4h has ANY real feelings about this team.

The dude quit very loudly on Tennessee last year and trashed the whole program. Then vanished. Showed back up and acted like nothing happened. This is the guy you're crying over right now.

Get over yourself, social justice warrior.

This was dug up to laugh at the hilarity of his trolling. Only thought of because his stupendous effort yesterday about loving the spot we're in.

Sucked about losing Jamal, but man these other backs are amazing! They came in and torched Georgia!

Oh, wait....

That was what 1998 felt like. Very much not like what this feels like.

Calling D4H.... Show up and own this.

D4H either wasn't born in 98 or still S****in yella

I know I said we could be in for another year like 1998 last season. But that was mostly wishful thinking. There really weren't many parallels between 2016 and 1998. I just wanted Dobbs, Sutton, Barnett, Hurd, Kamara, and JRM to go out as champions. If we're being honest, this year resembles 1998 a lot more than last year. In 2016 we were highly touted. We were the favorites to win the East and were even considered a dark horse playoff team. And we still had our legendary senior QB on the team. That's very different from 1998 when we had just lost our legendary senior QB. We were not expected to win the East let alone contend for a national championship.

When I look at 2017, it starts to look a lot like 1998. (1) We no longer have the legendary Josh Dobbs just as we no longer had the legendary Peyton Manning in 1998. (2) We have a long losing streak to Alabama that most feel we have no chance of breaking. In 1998 we had a long losing streak to Florida and most didn't feel we could beat them either. (3) We are being severely underrated by the media. Nobody expects us to win the East let alone compete for a national championship. (4) And like 1998, we still have a ton of talent on campus that is hungry and motivated to prove themselves.

Guys the saying that "this feels like 98" has never been more appropriate. I really think we are in for a special season. We're gonna shock a lot of people with how good we are.
