6'1 CB from Louisiana....press man here we come. Glad to see we are phasing out of the 10 yard cushion zone finally. That was some pathetic football for years.

If I’m reading the VQ post by Swanson above correctly, then we have this kid rated higher on our board than Taylor-Stuart?

Could be a mix of realistic chances vs talent difference in that case. Smith looks really good so if you think you can get him then no reason not to go hard.

If we got him would this be the first player we've actually landed who had a thread started by the Bologna? Thanks!!.

This guys film is impressive. He is a playmaker and we could sure use that. I'm pretty sure I saw highlights of him running for TDs, catching TDs, returning punts for TDs, intercepting and returning for TDs, throwing for TDs and I swear there was a highlight of him kicking a field goal. This guy is a football player and will be excited if we can pull him!

Quick note on DB Eddie Smith...

The Louisiana native confirmed to me that he will visit Tennessee officially the weekend of January 12th.

We will have a full story on him later. Safe to say Vols are a factor with him.

How was NOT going after long, tall, rangy corners who could tackle and hit a thing? Man, was I giving the previous staffs a pass.

Sidell, Louisiana defensive back Eddie Smith is gearing up to see Rocky Top a week from Friday, as the 6-1, 180-pound cornerback will officially visit Jeremy Pruitt and Tennessee right after the dead period.

Smith was a one-time commitment to TCU, but admits he was expecting a call from Pruitt when he got the Tennessee job.

“I wasn't surprised because he recruited me while he was at Alabama and he spoke highly of me there,” Smith said. “So I knew he would definitely want me at Tennessee.”

It's that feeling of being wanted that stands out most to Smith when asked what appeals to him the most about the Vols.

“How bad coach Pruitt and Coach (Terry) Fair want me knowing that Coach Pruitt is a great coach,” Smith explained. “I feel like I'm a great player and that makes me think we can work very well together.”

The 3-star prospect knows Pruitt from Alabama and has a good feel about Tennessee because of his friendship with current Vol defensive back Cheyenne Labruzza.

“I know Cheyenne very, very well. I've known him since I was a sophomore and we trained together for a while,” Smith offered.

Labruzza and Smith both trained with former Vol J.J. McCleskey. The relationship is something that Smith feels helps Tennessee's chances.

“It helps Tennessee because me and Cheyenne have a good relationship and I feel as if we can push each other to be better players,” Smith said.

In addition to seeing Tennessee in January, Smith will also visit Arkansas the last weekend and has already visited TCU.

“I'm looking for a school that has players who are as hungry as I am,” Smith said.

Smith is looking to satisfy his appetite starting next week as he sees Tennessee for the first time.
