Yup. Just saw that, and you’re right - it’s still impressive.
Also, Kim Caldwell reminds me of the Leipold hire. All he had ever done before Buffalo was absolutely dominate DII, and now he’s considered one of the best coaches in the game. Winners win.
The man hired Nate Oats out of a high school math classroom to freaking Buffalo (after having a very successful run with Bobby Hurley) while also getting Lance Leipold to the same school.
Then he went to UCF and hired Scott Frost and Josh Heupel. UCF fans were practically crying when he left...
EvanMiya’s on/off methodology really can’t handle players in weak conferences. Same issue with Knecht last year, and he’s still the 4th/5th player on our team this year because the old data is baked in.
Not trying to fault Evan, I’ve struggled just as much to account for it in my own analysis.
We’ll miss JJJ’s defense massively, was one of the best in the country for years, but Dubar definitely adds a better catch and shoot guy than we’ve had (outside of Knecht).
Also surprised to see he was a 70% shooter at the rim. Against weak comp but still, that’s better than anyone on our team...
Getting ahead of myself but…
ZZ, Lanier, Mashack, Gainey
Tyson, Dubar, Carr
Awaka (big if I know), Milicic, Estrella
That’s another top 10 team and final four candidate imo.
Would be thrilled. There’s no other Knecht, but I’d much rather have 3 guys that can score efficiently than a bulk scorer (even if that scorer is Knecht and he was incredible).
Tyson/Lanier/Dubar would take our offense up a notch for sure, then Barnes just has to get a rim protector and teach...
