That's one of the big differences between this year and previous years, but the contact period doesn't open until the day after the vandy game. So you aren't really losing anything by waiting until then.

It was a pretty poorly kept secret before the final game, everybody knew it was happening, but VT didn't make an official announcement until the day after the UVA game.

Even in cases where the new coach wasn't currently with another team, I can't remember them ever being officially announced until after the final game. Kiffin's announcement in '08, for example.
