They played the song at a game just prior to Garth Brooks (most overrated country singer in history) holding a concert in the stadium. Everyone sang it that day and they haven't stopped since. I normally don't care much either way about the trash they play or say over the PA system but...
You must not have been there. Al Wilson caused at least 4 of those turnovers and probably scared them into any other ones they had. As I said, that team was not gonna lose......to anyone.
Heard Stanley Morgan talk about that at an event in Memphis. He hated playing running back but they didn't have a dynamic running back on the roster. He was the best choice for the team and he was willing to do it. Vols needed to get the ball in his hands more than 5 or 6 receptions a game...
There wasn't a lot of uproar over Battle being fired. He took over the best football program in the SEC after Doug Dickey had built it up. The slide was very pronounced going from 10-1 in 1970 to .500 seasons in 75 & 76. A tie with Vanderbilt in 74, followed by a lost to Vandy in 75 set...
The 1998 team beat 4 teams ranked in the top 10 at the time of the game. They beat the Florida, Georgia, the Big East Champions, the ACC Champs, and the top 2 teams in the SEC West. That team would have won a play off. The 1995 team could have won a championship by going thru the play...
The 77 roster was not as devoid of talent as Ol Johnny wanted everyone to believe. Had Tim Irwin and Robert Shaw on the OL, Jimmy Streater at QB, Hubert Simpson and Kelsey Finch at RB, Jimmy Noonan was a very good DT and Roland James became an All American in the defensive backfield. I'd...
Battle was a good coach but not a good recruiter. Took over the Vols after Dickey had them at the top of the SEC. He won while he was coaching Dickey's talent but didn't bring in enough talent to stay successful. Turned out to be great move for Battle in that he made a lot of money...
Vols will almost always be in the 7-5 to 9-3 range. Probably looking at 8-4 this year due to new QB (who is very talented), lack of proven depth at RB, continued problems in defensive backfield, and lack of quality depth at LB.
No frustration. Awaka is a good player but he is very limited offensively. He's a very good defender and rebounder but he averages 9 fouls per 40 minutes. He would do well to follow the path set by DJ Burns who went to Elon and honed his skills against mid major teams and became a very good...
Undersized overachiever. He needs to go to a mid major to get the minutes that he craves. If he's not willing to work as hard as this program demands, I wish him well. Estrella has a much bigger upside.
Vols need someone who can go through contact and finish at the rim. Even DK tries to avoid the contact on a drive. Aidoo shies away from contact and Awaka can't hold onto the ball long enough to try it.
BTW: DK has never gotten the star treatment that top players normally get from refs...
