Kim Caldwell (Rookie Coach of the Year-WBCA) is named Head Coach of Iconic Lady Vols WBB

White did this with the soccer players after Pensky got hired away by FSU--and it was a dumb thing to do. The players really liked assistant coach Kirt--and White ended up hiring him as the head man, mostly, by all accounts, because he was poplar with the players. The soccer program has gone backwards ever since. You don't survey the players about who the next coach should be. Why would you? They're not in position to know /anything/ about all the other coaches around the country and their backgrounds--they only know the coaches they've been with. It's entirely pointless. Also, and relative to the soccer hire, popularity with the players should not be near the top of qualities one seeks in a new coach.
'after consulting with our student athletes" is a formality in every hiring search ever. They may even give the players a survey of what they're looking for, etc. But they're not really asking the players. That phrase is the ADs equivilent to "First and foremost . . ."

Not like here

Stfu 🤫

She may come but I don’t see it
If they don't make the Elite 8 or F4 next year at USC with all that talent , the pressure will be as bad as anywhere else. Thus will be my last response to you, and you're a DA if you think they'll be no pressure . As far a STFU , not as long as DA's like you keep posting .

Also, do we really want our players popping off to the media because they feel unheard or hopping into the portal without an idea of who we are hiring and who they might bring? It’s a bit of damage control and PR.

I like what Wes Moore is doing at NC State, but he's a little long in the tooth. I don't think we want someone that close to retirement.
Dawn Staley might (or might not) be too hard to pry out of SC.
I'd go for Jeff Walz. A coach of his caliber would surely be able to build a championship caliber team at a University with the resources, the history and the profile that the Tennessee women's program has. And he's already gotten to the Final Four and beyond with Louisville. Besides that, there's the state song with his name in it, courtesy of Patti Page. Also, he's young enough to stick around for a long while.
someone that "long in the tooth" doesn't have time to f around
At that age, its...get things done or get out of the way

Thank you! Asking player imput is one thing (it’s common and mostly just a gesture to help them feel heard), but the suggestion of White asking them WHO they want to be their next coach wouldn’t be even worse. No serious administrator would do that. You have a meeting and tell them you’re gonna go out and find the right person, you ask what they want in the next coach, you get the usual answers. It’s about like reporters asking coaches questions during games. It’s all just a gesture, no real depth to it. Same thing here.

U have no idea how this works. I’ve been thru it. The AD always asks for player input. Your long winded paragraph isn’t worth reading
But the final decision is based on what the AD wants long term. He may ask them what type of coach they would like, but the decision will be made for who is best long term not a certain person the team wants. There is many factors in the decision. GBO

Not about you per se. It just this discussion is already happening on the Kellie harper fired thread and it is more conducive to discussion to have a common discussion in one thread versus being fragmented across several.
It is board etiquette not too start a new thread for an ongoing discussion....
Oh sure cause everybody listens to that rule! 🤦‍♂️
